Blog Series - From Setup To ? - Part 2a - Quick-Installing WordPress with GoDaddy
written by Keith James Lock
After getting through Part 1 and Part 2 of the Blog Series you should have a WordPress installation up and running and your user profile setup with a new password, but for some of you following along that is not the case. I was asked politely that "since I talk so much about GoDaddy, why can't I make a post about how to use the quick method of installing WordPress".
Well here it is folks. I've never done it this way but I'll try it now and post the steps I take as I go along.
First steps... which will have already been taken care for most of you... sign up with GoDaddy and get the hosting account ready for files to be added (point a domain at it).
- When logged into the Account Manager head over to Hosting Account List under My Products.
- Click Open next to the Hosting Account.
- Under Content, choose GoDaddy Hosting Connection.
If you haven't heard of GoDaddy Hosting Connection, it's simply a tool that will allow you do quick-installs of some of the most popular web apps on the Internet, not just WordPress. I believe they even have arrangements with some companies that have normally pay-for web apps and they give them to you for free, but don't quote me on that.
- Choose Blogs from the list on the left and then choose WordPress.
- If you have the proper hosting account (Linux) you will see a button that says Install Now. Go ahead and click it.
- Now you pick a domain name and click Continue. You don't have to use the default domain that is pointed to the account. If you purchased the hosting package that allows multiple domains to be used on one hosting account, you can choose any of the domains attached to it.
- Enter a Database description and password and click Next.
- Enter a name for the folder you would like it be installed. If you want to install it as a stand alone web site, erase the prefilled 'wordpress' folder, otherwise enter your own folder name... maybe something like 'blog' (without the quotes of course). Click Next.
- Fill in the remaining info and click Finish.
That should be all there is to it. You will receive an email to the email address you specified in the last step after everything is setup. I'm guessing there will be a link to the WordPress administration area in the email. If not, enter yourdomain.com/wp-admin in your browser. Going there will redirect you to the login page. Use your username and password created in the last step (not the database username and password).
This quick-install method with GoDaddy is pretty straightforward and it seems they keep up with the latest version. Out of habit I will probably still use the way I always have though but this way could save you a little time and frustration. Let me know if you get stuck. Part 3 is coming soon, I swear.
