The story of how Soulja Boy (18 yr old rap artist) became famous is an interesting one, and should be of interest to you as a marketer. He used social media to pimp his own stuff, and since he had the goods, it was "shared", "liked", "dugg", "added" etc. by millions, one person at a time and he became "noticed" by the people he was trying to get to notice him in order to get a record deal.
That's exactly why ALL my content gets submitted to every social spot on the web possible...some of it is done automatically but a lot of the initial submissions are manual. Every blog I own is added, each post on the blogs is added, every video created is added, every Lens, every Hub, every article, every mini-site...all of it....and all my feeds are added to feed aggregators. It's a pain sometimes but it's very effective.
I only just started doing this actively recently. Every piece of content created I add the URL, description, tags, keywords and RSS feed (if one is created) to a Google Docs spreadsheet and I have someone distribute it socially everywhere and I'll tell you, it works wonderfully. I even started adding some posts that link to my content to the list but not as much effort is put into those.
Sometimes the rewards are slow...but you'll be glad you took the time to do it.

I love hearing stories about politicians, musicians, etc using social media successfully. I think it’s great- an effective way to get fans that isn’t used often enough. Good to see you’re also using social media sites to your advantage.
