Google FeedBurner has a feature they call My Brand. Here’s how they describe what it is…

“MyBrand lets you use your own domain name to host your feed. It puts you in even greater control of your content and its identity.”

Follow the steps below to map your feed from FeedBurner to your own domain in your GoDaddy hosting account.

First, login to your FeedBurner account using your Google or Gmail account. Then burn your feed if it isn’t already burned. To do that, simply paste your feed address into the text box, then click ‘Next’. Make note of the ‘feed address’, which is the portion after the http://feeds.feedburner.com/ part because we will need that later. Click ‘Next’ again.

Setup MyBrand

Click on the ‘My Account’ link (top right).

Click ‘MyBrand’ from the left menu.

In a new window or tab, login to your GoDaddy account.

Click ‘Domain Manager’ from the left side.

Click your domain name from the list of domains.

Scroll down a bit and in the center you should see a link that says ‘Total DNS Control’. Click that link.

Click the ‘Add New CNAME Record’ button (right side below the A records).

Enter an alias name. For example, I use ‘feeds’.

In step 1 on the MyBrand page you will see the value for host name. Mine is: ’8eeuzs.feedproxy.ghs.google.com’. Yours may be the same or similar.

Click ‘OK’, then ‘OK’ again.

In step 2 on the MyBrand page enter the subdomain that you just created. In my case it would be ‘feeds.domain.com’. Of course, domain.com would be replaced with my actual domain name.

Your new burned/mapped address will now be: http://alias-name.domain.com/feed-burner-feed-address

I’m sure you’ve heard all the hype about adding RSS feeds to your site, or subscribing to someone’s RSS feed, but do you know what RSS means? In a word, it means ease. Ease in reading, ease in writing, and ease in getting noticed. RSS feeds can be done through an RSS reader, or can even be emailed right to your subscribers inbox, without any extra hassles.

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. Basically, when you place one of the little orange icons on your website or blog, you’re making it easy for your readers to keep up with you when you post new articles. Do you like running back to a site every time you turn around to see if they’ve updated? Probably not, and neither do your readers.

RSS can also help you make a few extra bucks here and there, if you’re an affiliate writer or if you run a business online. You could build a newsletter for your clients, but that can take a lot of time and resources. When you let your customers subscribe to an RSS feed, you allow them to stay connected, while freeing up your time to do what it is that you do best, running your business.
