EDIT: Here’s a cool review theme with a custom ‘review’ post type… a different approach to using the plugin described below.

These review sites convert like crazy and using WordPress and a slick plugin by Dan Grossman make them pretty simple to setup. It’s not like a review site where you give your opinion about 3-5 similar products and create a Buy Now link for each one (which is also a high converting type of site), it’s quite a bit different. The reviews on these sites are actually from customers of the products (or services). The example given on the Review Site Plugin page is a review site for web hosting providers, but it can be for virtually anything. You can go very micro niche on these types of sites. You could have a review site for just Windows Hosting Providers for example or hotels in Windsor, Ontario, Canada as another viable example.

After you have decided on a product or service you need a theme. A one-column theme works best. The plugin includes customized themes with the download. They are customized for easy integration of each element of the review plugin. Additionally, the themes have built-in support for the hReview microformat! If you aren’t sure what that is, I’ll tell you this, it equates to loads more traffic from the search engines!

On the actual post page is where you will put the description of the product. In the comments area is where a past customer of the product leaves their reviews….or a customer that returns after purchasing it through your site, or in the case of the hotel site…booking a hotel room online.

The comments display like they normally would but the the ratings are integrated into the theme files. You decide before hand using the review plugin admin interface as to what you would like the customer to base the ratings on and what the maximum values are. It’s pretty flexible. The software will then calculate and display an average of the ratings. It will also determine by the ratings if it was a positive or negative review and add those up as well.

To get the ball rolling on the reviews, depending on the niche, there should be a forum for the company or service you are promoting. For example, if you have a hosting company reviews site, you might go to the LunarPages and the GoDaddy forums and ask customers to drop by and tell you what they think about their hosting package. You will get mixed reviews naturally. Do not filter out the bad ones. It’s important that the reviews are genuine. It will improve conversions if there are also bad reviews, believe me.

If you decide to set one of these up and run into any snags, leave a comment and I will try to lend a hand. If you like the hotel idea (and it works well) and you want to set one up for your city, I use TravelNow.com as the affiliate in case you are wondering (same company as Hotels.com). Good luck!

Take a look at some of the other features of the plugin here or download it here…. OR…. TRY THIS REVIEW THEME

Note: Last updated on July 23, 2011

Use the steps below to get free targeted website traffic in any niche.

First, sign up to the Free Traffic System (truly free for 60 one-way backlinks per submission – you get unlimited submissions).

Then, log in to the system and you will be at the “New Article” screen.

You can have 2 links per article. You can use whichever anchor text you wish for each link. You can actually specify several varying anchor text for several varying URLs. The system will just randomly grab a keyword and attach it to a random URL if you do in fact specify more than one of each. In most cases you will probably just use one URL. Also, you might want to target just one keyword for the 1st submission, and perhaps some LSI keywords for future submissions, but it all depends how you roll in the SEO game.

There are 4 boxes for you to put your keywords/URLs into. Add them now.

Add a “spun” article title (more on that in a minute).

Add a “spun” article body and insert the tokens (more info in a minute).

Add a tag. (allowed just one tag)

Now enter a keyword or multiple keywords separated by the pipe “|” symbol. Then click “Get Blogs”. This will allow you to see a list of blogs in your niche (that match the keywords that you specified). These blogs are where your content will be posted with do-follow backlinks. You just select the blogs (up to 30) and the category on the blog for where you want your content to be posted. Your content (which will be unique by the way – part of the “spinning” that I will explain in a sec) will be slowly posted to these blogs over time.

That’s it! The ball is rolling. Now, a word on “spinning”…

I’ve discussed spinning in the past, and the concept of blog content syndication. It allows you to submit an article in a special format that will generate multiple unique versions of the article. This is accomplished by rewriting each sentence or paragraph or other group of text one or more times. The system randomly grabs either the original or a rewrite for each of the “groups of text” that you decided to spin, in order to generate unique renditions of the article.

Inserting tokens: Once the “spun” article is complete, you just have to insert tokens where you would like your links to be. So, just hunt down your first keyword that you want linked and replace it with: %LINK1% and then do the same for the second keyword, except, of course, using the token: %LINK2%

One note on the spun content. You cannot spin the sentence which contains your token. At least I haven’t been able to get it to work so I stopped trying. The thing is, you are only allowed 2 links per article. If you spin the sentence with your %LINK% token, then that token will exist twice. The system looks at that as if you were trying to insert more links than you are allowed. It’s annoying but not a huge deal. I’ll be emailing them about it soon, so maybe it will have been fixed by the time you read this.

Here’s an example of what a “spun” article might look like…

ORIGINAL ARTICLE:
The BodyBugg is a calorie management device that was brought to fame on the hit TV show, The Biggest Loser. This device calculates the number of calories consumed and the number of calories burned throughout the day to determine if weight loss will occur.

SPUN ARTICLE:
[spin]The BodyBugg is a calorie management device that was brought to fame on the hit TV show, The Biggest Loser.|The hit NBC show, The Biggest Loser, helped make the calorie management device, the BodyBugg a household name.[/spin] [spin]This device calculates the number of calories consumed and the number of calories burned throughout the day to determine if weight loss will occur.|As you wear the device throughout the day it will measure caloric intake and expenditure. If more calories were burned than consumed, weight loss will occur.[/spin]

This small example would result in 4 articles that can be generated… the complete original, the complete rewrite, and the 2 mixes. I’m sure there is some sort of formula to calculate how many versions can be created, but if you submit a 450 word article to the Free Traffic System and spin each sentence, I’m sure it will generate enough versions to reach the 30 blogs that you are allowed. I do the exact same thing for other networks and I get 100′s of versions that are generated.

Don’t take this information lightly. Put in the work and you WILL reap the rewards. The reason it is free is because an extra link is added to the bottom of your article when it gets submitted. That link can be mine if you use my link, otherwise it will a link to promote the Free Traffic System. Either way you can get a lot of mileage from this free technique. Now… do it! (then promote it in the same way that I have to get your backlinks in other people’s submissions, and so on, and so on…)

I had several emails lately asking how I create my review sites after reading the N1Way guide. The answer to that question depends a lot on the niche or my goals with the site. There are a lot of things to consider in the creation of the site…

Do you use BANS or WordPress with phpBay? My answer… WordPress with phpBay 99% of the time.

Do you use posts or pages when using WordPress? My answer… Posts 100% of the time (think RSS)… plus there’s way less manual work, use the archives page for what it is meant for.

Where do you get the content? For some of the sites that I want to test or just set on auto-pilot I will use free, unique, automated content. With the automated content, sometimes I check each article before publishing and integrate the appropriate auctions into the posts. For some, the real auto-pilots, I will just insert some generic phpBay code into the post template file.

For 100% unique content (without the backlinks that are in the free automated content), I either look to DigitalPoint forums, TextBroker.com or write it myself. Then I will integrate the auctions in as I publish them.

What about comments?

Sometimes I use comments, sometimes I don’t. Depends on the niche and if it seems to go well with it. Plus, as you may know, monitoring comments can be a bit of a pain sometimes, so with the auto-pilot sites, I just turn them off. Also, if your post ranks for a certain keyword, then some say it may lose the ranking of that keyword if there ends up being several comments over time because the page becomes diluted. Even though that may be valid, on the sites that I consider the most important, the ones I pay the most attention to, I will leave comments on but with a twist…

The WordPress Review Plugin

There is this amazing plugin (I discussed it in the post: Create A Review Site Using WordPress) that can be integrated very well with the sites that you build following the N1Way guide. With this plugin, previous customers of the product that you are promoting, can leave a review and a rating. The plugin takes over the comments in your blog to gather this data. It will also calculate averages, etc. and show Amazon-style ratings on the product posts. It will even put in the necessary microtags that the search engines can read when trying to review data for certain queries! If you aren’t sure what I mean, look up hReview, more search engines are looking at this data and showing preference to sites that implement it. With the WP Review plugin, the microtags are all automatically integrated.

You could probably get fancy with custom fields and some changes to your template file to include auctions below the comments as well. A bit advanced. If enough people ask I will post on how to do it.

I have a few blogs that I setup awhile back that are virtually on auto-pilot. The content is all unique, automated and 100% free. Also, backlinks are created automatically. For these blogs I usually just put a banner in the sidebar, sometimes I float AdSense to the right of each post, sometimes I add eBay auctions underneath the posts or on a separate page. Also, I usually put some sort of ad on the main page above all the posts.

One of the blogs, on the topic of acai berries, has a conversion (worth $41) every 2-3 days. Did I mention that I don’t really do anything to it anymore? I just let it run on it’s own merit.

Free Blog Content

To get the unique blog content, automatically added, and for free, I look to SK or AMA. It depends a lot on the topic, which network I choose. AMA has a large selection of specific and broad categories to choose from. SK has just broad categories. However, with SK you can also specify keywords for the content that you want. So for the acai blog I used SK. I picked a few categories, like Health, etc. then entered the keyword “acai”. Initially I set it to 10 a day until I reached 10 posts, then changed it to just 2 a day. If the specific category that you are looking for exists on AMA, that’s another great choice for free blog content.

Auto-Backlinks

You can use plugins that will automatically Social Bookmark each post as it gets published. Auto Social Poster is a good choice, plus there’s an Onlywire auto-submit plugin (free) floating around. I haven’t used it so I can’t account for it’s quality. Plugins like these have to be constantly updated to keep up to date with the bookmarking sites, so it’s more likely that a free plugin developer may drop the ball. Granted, the OnlyWire plugin requires just one API call, so it may be a freebie that stays up to date. Let me know.

Also, the free content you get from either AMA or SK has links to 3rd party websites in it (that’s why it’s free), well, a lot of times they link to other blogs, which initiates a trackback link, so you will be automatically getting backlinks from niche related blogs on occasion.

That’s all I really did for, no effort, free, auto-backlinking on these blogs.

Semi Auto-Backlinking

There’s another process that I use for getting backlinks to these blogs. There’s a bit of work up front, then it’s automated after that. You submit an article in a special format (generally 2 or more articles merged together) to SK or AMA. The articles, when processed by SK and AMA, will generate several unique versions of the article. Each version contains your choice of hyperlink(s).

The anchor text can be random and so can the URL, so it’s a good idea to do some deep linking, perhaps to a category page, or a review page if you included one on your blog. Now, slowly over time, you will get backlinks from niche related blogs, which is really just the reverse process of getting free blog content to your blogs (like mentioned above).

There is a fee to do these submissions. It is a monthly fee and lets you initiate as many submissions as you want during your subscription period. It generally takes about 2 months or more for 1 submission to run its course (for slow, natural link building), but you can run multiple submissions simultaneously for as many sites as you have.

Last I checked, when signing up for the free version of AMA, you get to try the normally paid service for free for a short time.

I bought the 9 step guide last night (you know, the one from the BANS guys, showing you how to build niche sites promoting eBay auctions?). The launch email came at a time when I was finished the rest of my work for the day and I just got a lump sum of PayPal money, so I bought the thing. It was about $28 Canadian when I bought it. Well worth it. I like to think I know a thing or two about niche sites, well after reading the guide, I think I may have been working too hard on them…

I very well may have been over-marketing my sites, wasting my efforts, according to what I read in this guide. Anyway, it is a step by step guide, very well written, and gives instructions for both BANS and WordPress (with phpBay). Here’s an example site that they created with WordPress: http://forgedgolfirons.com/

You see, the auctions aren’t up front and in your face. They want to promote VALUE, and that is in the reviews and guides they wrote. They say they want to give value, then just bring the targeted customer closer to the till to make the purchase without focusing on any mind tricks or voodoo (my words, highly paraphrased). They want to fill a need, then the sales just follow.

They focus mostly on development. They don’t market like crazy and scramble for backlinks and setup tons of profiles on social sites. I venture to say that they almost have the “build it and they will come mentality”. They walk the walk. They’ve been doing it for over 4 years. These guys (BANS guys remember) aren’t going to lay out lies for obvious reasons. I have to honestly say that without the reputation behind them I wouldn’t believe it would work. I am a big advocate of creating lots and lots and lots backlinks. I spend a good part of my day doing it for some of my partnered sites.

Perhaps it’s time to switch more to this model. It suits me more to be honest. It’s the part that I’m good at and that I love. I’m actually seeking partners for this right now. Someone to create the content and I would do the rest. Build 2 sites, 1 site for me, 1 for the writer. If you are a writer, get the guide, get on the same page with me with this thing, then get a hold of me. If you are a marketer, get the guide, then make some loot!

It includes BOTH the WordPress Geo Country Plugin AND the Geo Country PHP Script.

If you want to simply show country specific messages, like “We deliver directly to {country-name}!” to your site visitors, this free geo targeting WP plugin will do the trick.

Let’s run through a quick example using the WordPress plugin ( or script ) from the Geo Country Bundle…

A common use of the geo country scripts is to show different ads ( or other content ) in posts, pages, widgets and / or theme files based on the person’s country. The content can be in the form of text, html, javascript and / or php <--- even in posts and pages! See how here.

For example, say you are running an “acai berry” blog or site. You may have an offer / creative for the U.S. only which pays $37.00. You may also have another offer that caters to Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. which pays only $34.00. Before using this plugin, you may have opted for the second offer ( the $34.00 one ) so you didn’t miss out on the U.K. and Canadian traffic. However, the $3.00 extra you would get for the U.S. offer is very important to your bottom line, plus… what about all of the other countries visitors that may drop by? You can monetize that traffic as well with say… some Google AdSense.

So how do you display the correct offer to your visitor? Simple, you install the geo-targeting script ( or plugin ) and run some simple commands when using the script ( or use WordPress shortcodes when using the plugin ) to decide which ads to display. In English you’d say “If this visitor is from the U.S., show the $37.00 offer, if they are from Canada or the U.K. show the $34.00 offer, and if they are from anywhere else, show Google AdSense!”

The plugin and script are both very easy to install and use on WordPress and other php based sites. I created a very thorough step-by-step quick-start guide as well to explain exactly how to use it, plus there are a variety of support avenues to get things going quickly.

If you have a niche blog or site, or even a Squidoo lens, etc. that you want to rank for a certain keyword, keep reading… I have discovered an amazing strategy that will save you lots of time and money.

You understand that having links back to your site can improve your rankings in search engines right? You also understand that using varied related keywords as the anchor text surrounded by related information helps a great deal right? You probably have heard of and may even use article marketing techniques to help with your SEO efforts. It has been said that submitting UNIQUE content to niche related web sites with links back to your site will help your rankings climb in the SERPS. Well, let me tell you about a way that has been helping me rank for some high traffic keywords. I pay a lot less than I used to for content and it’s also less manual effort saving me a ton of time.

The Process In A Nutshell…

I basically have 2 articles written from a ghost writer, merge them with some special formatting, submit them to a content syndication network and then rinse and repeat for other sites, pages, hubs, lenses etc. that I want to rank for my chosen keywords.

There are several ways that you can prepare your articles for submission but here I will describe the method that I have been using and that has been working well for me. I have someone write a 100% unique article for me on a particular topic. How many links it can contain depends on the number of words it is. 300 words or more will allow 2 links. You can go as high as 3 links. I usually pay a writer from the DigitalPoint forum around $1.50 to $2.00 per 100 words.

Then I have someone “spin” the article. Spinning the article involves rewriting each sentence and heading of the original article. The sentences should be around the same length and mean EXACTLY the same thing as the original, just using different words. Then I create a text file merging the 2 articles with special formatting. It’s simple, you wrap the original and rewritten sentence in [spin] tags and separate them with the pipe “|” symbol like this: [spin]Original 1st sentence.|Rewritten 1st sentence.[/spin] [spin]Original 2nd sentence.|Rewritten 2nd sentence.[/spin]

I then submit the specially formatted file to the content syndication network and it does the rest. You will have to provide the list of keywords that you want to be linked and where they are to be linked to and then replace the keyword in your article with a special code. The system will replace that special code with a random keyword and make it a link. The system will also randomly grab a sentence, either the original or a rewrite, for each sentence, generating several unique versions of the article. You are left with 90+ unique versions of your original article ready to be gradually and automatically submitted to niche related blogs, with dofollow links back to your content! It’s a gradual process making it more natural.

This is just a simple example, and really it is all I often ever do. But you could write several alternate sentences if you wish, it doesn’t have to be just 1. Just separate them all with pipes. You can also show a random YouTube video and random lists in your articles among other things. There are clear instructions on how to do accomplish all of this in the support files of the network.

Picture it…you could have a 250 word article written and “spun” for around 5 or 6 dollars. Spend about 1/2 hour setting up the submission and you can have over 90 backlinks to your blog on auto-pilot over the next few months. Do that once a week and you have a crap load of backlinks coming in.. including deeplinks if you choose! With your paid subscription to Syndicate Kahuna you can submit as many articles as you want! No limits. Promote all of your sites and content pages. Some say it’s ALL you need for SEO.

Stay tuned because I will be introducing a tool that I had written that makes the “spinning” process extremely simple and less prone to formatting errors (because it’s done by the program rather than a human). It works like a charm.

Keep your receipt if you subscribe through my Syndicate Kahuna link, because I have a special offer coming up! Also, make sure you subscribe to get my posts by email so you don’t miss it.

When creating a niche blog based around a certain keyword, there are a few things that are handy to keep in mind when buying the domain name.

Keywords In The Domain

Of course we know it is advantageous to purchase a domain name with our keyword in it. You can get one with or without hyphens. In other words: yourkeyword.com or your-keyword.com.

Country Specific TLD

When setting out to a create a niche blog for a certain keyword you should take a step or two back. What country are you targeting? And before you say… “all of them”, you should consider getting a bit more niche specific than that for better results. When doing your keyword research to find high trafficked keywords with low strength of competition, preferably using Market Samurai, you can look at country specific results.

Because people search for things in search engines differently, you will see different results for “number of searches” and “competition” when looking at the results for a particular country. Now if you buy a domain name with that particular country’s TLD, and host the site on a server that resides in that country (more on that later), then you will be several steps ahead of your SEO competitors right out of the gate.

By the way, TLD stands for top level domain and is the part after the “dot” in the domain name (or maybe it even includes the dot, I’m not sure). (com, ca, edu, for example)

Check out this list of country specific TLD’s from Wikipedia.

2 Years Minimum

Also, the testing has been done, and the search engines will take your site more seriously, and rank you higher than competitors as a result, if you pay for 2+ years when buying your domain name. Don’t just get it for 1 year. Invest in your business and get it for 2 or more.

Extra SEO Tips

In an effort to rank higher for your chosen country-specific keyword in the country-specific search engine, it is beneficial to host the site on a server that is located in the country that you are targeting. Sometimes it’s tricky to find because just because the homepage of a hosting provider is in Australia for example, it does not mean that the servers are there. I will be putting together a list shortly with servers and hosting providers around the world and will include it in a future post.

Additionally, entering a street address from the country that you are targeting onto your site will help you rank higher. I think it helps when on the About, Contact and Privacy Policy (and maybe Terms & Conditions) pages. I generally just include it in the footer (which is especially simple on a WordPress blog by adding it to the footer theme file) so it appears on all pages.

Buying Domain Names

GoDaddy still continues to provide great prices for domain names. They add new TLD’s to their offerings all of the time. I buy domains from several domain registrars for a specific strategy that I employ, but for the most part GoDaddy is my choice for domains.

As a bonus, domains purchased at GoDaddy will get propagated quicker, meaning your site will be viewable around the world quicker, but it does depend on the TLD. For example, a .com purchased at GoDaddy could have a site “live” for the world to see in literally minutes. I know because I’ve done it. Try these coupons for some discounts. (cjctld749 for .org AND MTECH330 for .com) Using these coupons will negate my referral commission unfortunately so you don’t really have to use them! haha Oh, and if you are purchasing more than one domain with different TLD’s and using coupons, do the transactions separately because you can only add 1 coupon at a time.

Just last month I sold a new WP blog on SitePoint and my profit after the sale was just over $800.00. The blog that I sold I would normally get around $100-$150 but I did a couple extra things to make it much more valuable. I’ll explain in detail below.

Create Some Quick Feeder Blogs

First what I did, which might change the way you look at it, is I created 2 extra blogs to add to the sale. But, truthfully, I put both of the extra blogs together in just a couple of hours. I didn’t do any extras to them like I do on the main blog. They were used solely as feeder blogs to the main money blog. I dressed them up with a nice theme from WooThemes…and why not? It takes just as much time to add a premium theme as it does a free one. Actually, it’s usually much quicker to configure a WooTheme using the built-in administration area, but you would only know what I mean if you ever used one.

Anyway… I added a block of AdSense to the feeder blogs although I’m thinking now it might have best to leave it out. Also, I added the RSS feed of the main blog to a widget in the sidebar of the feeder blogs. Other than that I just created some basic red, white, black and blue text banners and linked them to the main money blog. I added one to the sidebar, 1 floating to the right of each post and one below the featured post. Really, using a WooTheme can dictate the placement of the banners, I just fill in the gaps. It’s very simple. Oh, and for content, I used Syndicate Kahuna (or Article Marketing Automation) to get free, unique, niche specific content. Get the max allowed articles per day until you reach 10 or 15, then change it to 1 a day and your blogs are ready to go.

Install Geo Targeting So That Your Money Blog Is Monetized For Practically Any Country

The first thing I do to maximize the monetization to as many countries as possible is add a one page eBay store to the main blog using the phpBay pro WP plugin. Almost every niche has products being sold on eBay. Typically when I build a blog using phpBay, I break things down into categories and create one “post” per category. I use posts so that when I submit my RSS feed to the RSS directories, the auctions may be included in the listings. But for the niche blogs that I intend to sell, I simply add a one page listing using one generic keyword. Sometimes I have to add some negative keywords to filter my results. For the most part, this “upgrade” takes about 10 minutes.

Geo Targeting For CPA Offer Ad Placement

Ok, this simple addition to the blog is very powerful and adds quite a bit of value.

As an example of how I used this in the past… I was promoting a certain offer on my main blog which paid $35 but was only for U.S. traffic. The same product, but on a different CPA network paid $30 but catered to both U.S. and Canadian traffic. Then I found another similar offer paying $29 which catered to U.S., Canada and the U.K.

I could have simply chose the $29 offer which allowed me to promote to all 3 countries but instead I chose all 3 offers and used a custom geo targeting script so I knew which offer to show based on the customers country.

Here’s how it works in a nutshell. I added one line of code to the very top of the “header” file in my theme. This line of code triggered a script (and since it is in the header, it is triggered on ALL pages) that looked at the IP Address of the visitor, compared it to a database of IP Addresses to determine the visitors country. The script stores the 2 letter country code in a variable. Now, if I want to place an ad in the sidebar for example, I run a simple if-test to say something like… if the country is “US” show the HTML for the US ad, if it is “CA” then show the HTML for the Canadian ad…and so on. It’s actually very very simple to implement. I will be giving away my custom script (with instructions) later today or tomorrow to the readers of my newsletter, but you can get everything that you need for it to create your own from the MaxMind web site, specifically this page here.

MaxMind GeoLite Country Free IP Address to Country DB

Regardless of whether you use my script or create your own, if you use the MaxMind approach, you may want to keep your IP address DB up-to-date. It gets updated monthly. Personally, I don’t sweat it too much. I might update it every few months if that. There is a DB that they offer for sale, as well as a free one. The free open source database that MaxMind provides offers 99.5% accuracy which is good enough for me :) I guess it returns “US” for all AOL users, but for my purposes that’s fine.

Customizing The Ad For Each Country

A cool easy thing to do for your ads is to customize them for each country. For example, you might put something like “Now available in Canada…” and/or display a small Canadian flag on the ad for Canadian users.

What To Do When You Don’t Have An Offer For A Specific Country

Obviously with the example above I am only able to present my offer to 3 different countries. What do I do with the rest of the traffic to squeeze out the money making potential? I do one of two things. Sometimes I display an ad promoting the auctions. Since the auctions are on a page and generally there is just one small link in the navigation bar pointing to it, it doesn’t hurt to display an ad promoting the auctions to all of the “extra” countries. eBay allows you to promote to several major countries and with the geo-trageting in place in your phpBay plugin it will automatically show auctions specific to the country of the visitor. Incidentally, the free geo-trageting upgrade to phpBay uses the same MaxMind database discussed above.

Now, if you don’t want to promote the auctions for whatever reason or your niche doesn’t have any products available on eBay you can just display AdSense ads to all of the extra countries.

There you have it…those 2 things, I believe, increased the value of the blog(s) to the point where I could command a much higher amount. Hope this post helps you and gives you a bit of interest in blog flipping. Best of luck.

EDIT: Last updated July 24, 2009

If you aren’t dropping eBay auctions in your posts on your niche blogs, you are missing out. Below I posted a snapshot of some earnings from a new site just after a couple of weeks of being up. Sending eBay new customers pays very well, plus you get half the transactions fees for the auction your customer participated in.

You might have heard in the past about a bunch of eBay affiliates being banned from promoting eBay auctions. Well, some may not have deserved it, I don’t know, but the ones that did were trying to game the system. They were doing everything they could to get their affiliate tracking cookies on regular eBay user machines. Since you can still get commissions for existing user transactions, this worked well for awhile. They were doing things like linking people to popular or funny auctions knowing they wouldn’t place a bid, and they were using their affiliate links. Then, the person would click over, a cookie would be planted, they would check out the funny auction, then maybe close their browser. If they jumped onto eBay a couple days later and did some bidding, the affiliate that sent them to the funny auction a couple days prior would get credit. Clever but short sighted.

How Not To Get Banned From eBay Partner Network

To stay in EPN’s good graces, link to auctions that are related to the content on your site. If someone clicks on a TV auction from a TV site and buys a TV from eBay, you deserve a commission and eBay will reward you handsomely for doing so. Their new commission structure is of great benefit to affiliates that do this…and you can get up to $50 for new customers!!

20% Off Discount Coupon For phpBay!!

I earned my money back after 30 days of using the phpBay plugin. Had my most recent site been my first site then I would have had my money back inside of a week. I managed to get a discount coupon for you all if you haven’t already scooped up phpBay. Use my phpBay link here and use the coupon code: DA9CD69F42.

More eBay Affiliate Related Info:

I recently started a series of posts called: phpBay The Extended Manual. Check it out for lots of great tips on tweaking and upgrading phpBay Pro. Also, you may want to take a look at this 9 step guide. It discusses every aspect of building an eBay affiliate business using phpBay and/or BANS. It starts at picking a market and gets into building and maintaining your sites, as well as possibly outsourcing common tasks down the road. It’s a must read in my opinion if you aren’t already making $250+ per month from each and every eBay niche site you create.
