I was asked recently to explain one simple way to which I go about getting backlinks to my site… so here it is..

Here’s an explanation for what I find to be the simplest in terms of the amount of time spent and the number of backlinks gained… (note: some or all of the steps can be outsourced)

First, let me explain a scenario to understand the purpose..

Say I have an article on one of my sites that I want to rank for the term… “chia seeds recipes” (meaning, someone types that term in a search engine and a link to my article shows up at or near the top of the organic results. i.e. the non-paid results).

What I would do is find (or come up with) a handful of keywords (or keyphrases) that can be used in place of “chia seeds recipes” in a sentence where the sentence still makes sense. Sometimes I might come up with just one, sometimes 10 or 20, sometimes none.. Either way…

The reason… I want links back to my article with the anchor text “chia seeds recipes” (and all the other terms I gathered, if any) to help help with my rankings. The anchor text used in the link gives the search engine a clear indication of what the article is about and, among other factors (including the number of links), helps in determining the location of the article in the search results.

Now.. I write.. or have someone else write an article (about 350-400 words) relating to the topic.. in this case “chia seeds”. Then.. I spin.. or have someone else “spin” the article.

Spinning involves modifying the article with special tags so that the article can be put through a “spinning engine” that spits out unique versions of the article. When spinning you come up with words or phrases to replace existing words or phrases in the article, at the same time keeping the integrity and readability of the article in tact. (<a href="http://keithjameslock.com/free-article-spinner-content-professor-feedback/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow")>Here’s A Free Web-Based Spinning Tool Here)

Once the article is spun.. you run it through one or more “spinning engines” that will create/distribute unique versions of your articles around the web. The articles that get distributed have your backlinks within them (more on that in a second). The places where your articles get published include blogs and article directories around the web that have setup a relationship with the spinning engine to get your content (i.e. they want your content and will link to you in exchange for it). The articles usually get published on blogs related to your topic (which provide extra value for the backlink), or at least in a category that relates to your topic. Your one article can generate 1000′s of unique articles so submitting them to a variety of networks is often a decent idea. Each spinning engine has unique features which include:

1) Monthly, yearly or lifetime cost for use
2) Number of articles allowed to be submitted based on membership level
3) Number of blogs or articles directories that can be submitted to from your one main “spun” article (could be 10, 100, 1000′s or unlimited)
4) Number of backlinks per article
5) Placement of backlinks (within content or within a resource or signature box)
6) Frequency of submissions (some let you set it to 5/day, 10/day, etc.) – so.. one submission can generate 5 backlinks per day for you for several months for example!

As far as backlinks go, I usually create one for the main article I want to rank for (using the variety of anchor texts I gathered in the beginning), one to the homepage (using my main keywords for my site), and if allowed one to a category page as well.

The spinning engine will automatically rotate through your keywords (in the same way it does using the alternate words and phrases added during the “spinning” process) to use as the anchor text in the article that gets submitted to the blog or article directory.

I submit my spun article to several spinning engines to get maximum effect. It is a bit pricy to keep the memberships but it is well worth it. Each spinning engine (or network) has different requirements for each submission so it does take a bit of time. When writing/spinning/submitting the article myself it can take 3-5 hours or more. There are cheap shortcuts but the value just isn’t the same so I take care to do it properly (write an original, quality article.. and hand spin it)

Here’s the process in short..

1) Get 1-3 links (depending on network(s) submitting to) and the keywords you want to rank them for
2) Write an article
3) Spin the article
4) Submit the article (inserting links where appropriate)

My Writing/Spinning/Submission Service – $147

If you don’t feel like paying the subscription costs for these network and don’t feel like writing/spinning articles.. then send me 2 URL’s (and optionally the keywords you want to rank for).. and for $147 I will..

1) Do the extra keyword research if necessary
2) Write a 350-450 word article
3) Spin the article
4) Work your links in
5) Submit to SIX networks (resulting in 100′s – 1000′s of backlinks)
6) Provide you screenshots of the submissions to each network

The concept of large scale backlink building, as a truly efficient way of driving valuable traffic to your website and achieving front page rankings in search engines, is no novelty. Article syndication is by far one of the top ways to obtain backlinks that search engines take into account in their ranking algorithms. However, manually spinning and submitting articles is usually a tedious task that requires a lot of time and effort to yield any noticeable effects.

Because of this, until recently, top performance was only within the reach or wealthy marketers that are able to invest impressive financial and human resources in search engine optimization strategies. However, Noble Samurai launched a product with the potential to completely revolutionize article syndication and make large scale backlinking available to any online marketer. Although the upcoming Article Samurai shares some common characteristics with another web-based ‘Samurai’ product called Market Samurai, it is a stand alone tool that’s linked up to a vast online network of article directories and blogs, and it enables users to quickly and consistently disseminate valuable content over the Internet. This process, dubbed “smart syndication”, practically allows marketers to submit several hours’ worth of work in just 5 to 10 minutes.

The main advantage of Article Samurai is that it is a complete linkbuilding system that virtually unifies several marketing tools. Everything you need to create, spin and submit articles is provided to you in one easy to use software. In addition, it is an entirely white hat technique that proposes a fair and simple trade: you allow websites to use your content, and in return they give you backlinks. The automated program ensures that each submission abides to each directory’s rules, thus avoiding the all too common human errors that occur when trying to syndicate a lot of content to many different websites. Moreover, you will be submitting to a diverse range of active website and blog networks that are owned by real people.

Caste studies performed to test the efficiency of this program have achieved over 12000 backlinks for a brand new website over a period of just a few months, as well as over 600 page one rankings, with 69 keywords hitting the number 1 position. To test its market impact, the tool will undergo a trial period where it is released to only 500 “foundation subscribers” of the product Market Samurai. If it takes off, Article Samurai will later be released to the general public to allow any online marketer the opportunity to use this amazing resource.

First, I will explain the obvious way people are wasting their SEO efforts in terms of ‘first link priority’, then I’ll talk about a not-so-obvious way that I myself was guilty of (but I corrected with just 2 minutes of work).

I have several web sites that get most of their content for free from those auto spinner/submitter networks. Some of them let you approve the content before it gets posted so I tend to use those ones more. Well, one network will email me a copy of the content with an ‘Accept’ and ‘Reject’ link included, so I actually read them before allowing them to get posted.

Well, I find, more often than not, if the person is not trying to link to some random site unrelated to the content, they use their 2 or 3 links allowed in the content to point to the same exact target, but they use different anchor text. On the surface this seems like they are getting 2 or 3 keyword-rich do-follow backlinks from just one piece of content, but that’s just not the case.

Only the link that shows first in the content (actually within the HTML code which can be deceiving) will take priority, the rest are just wasted and could have been better used for linking to another related site or to some deeper pages on the same site.

It seems like a great deal of wasted effort, and although it makes me slightly happy  to see this going on with my competition, I really do wish I can contact these people and tell them that with a tiny amount of extra effort they can be doing much better in the SERPS.

This happens with images as well. Consider this example:

The text link:

Getting full coloured glossy brochures printed, could be the edge you need for your business. With a 24-hour turn around time, NextDayFlyers does what it says on the tin… etc. etc…

The image link:

In the example above, only the text link would be the one that passes any “juice” right? Right. Now, you might not see it, but the image has alt and title text of “brochures” so one might assume those words act as the ‘anchor text’ for the image, and if that’s the case, those 2 links are created equal so it wouldn’t matter if the links were reversed. If the image link was included first in the content (or more properly, the HTML) it would stand to reason that NextDayFlyers would get the same “juice”….

Well, according to the latest post at the Market Samurai blog, that’s not the case. The ‘alt’ and ‘title’ text in the image is not equivalent to ‘anchor text’. What’s the point? Well, this shows that the text link showing first on the page has much more value than if the image link were to be shown first.. and that is VALUABLE knowledge in regards to SEO…

OK… with that said, we don’t always have control over how other sites link to us… but we all (or I would hope, most of us) have control over our on-page SEO factors and the linking that goes on throughout our sites.

The All Too COMMON On-Page SEO Mistake That Is SIMPLE To Fix And Avoid In The Future

It’s standard practice to have your web site logo link back to the main page of your site, from every other page of the site right? Well, a lot of times that logo link shows FIRST in the HTML code, therefore preventing you from having valuable anchor text flowing to your main page. And please don’t assume that keyword-rich inter-linking within the same site does not have value for SEO. Have a look at the top sites, built by affiliates in your niche, to see the inter-linking going on.. from post-to-post-to-post…

I knew the value of linking to the home page with proper anchor text but I never even thought about ‘first link priority’. I only practiced that with external content for some reason. So often what I did was change the standard ‘Home’ link in the main nav to reflect the key-phrase I was trying to rank for, but I think having a clearly defined ‘Home’ link is important for usability so I started to just include a keyword-rich link to the homepage in the footers of my sites. Now, that was a waste of time!

The Fix: In order to fix this, some CSS-styling can be employed. What it does is display the logo when browsing normally, but when CSS is turned off (as is the case when being crawled by search engines), just the keyword-rich link is shown.

The entire process is shown very well on the Market Samurai blog , so I won’t duplicate the process here. They provide a link to a FireFox add-on that lets you turn off CSS in order to test your fix (or you can just use the text-based browser Lynx). Plus, they offer different methods for employing the fix, if you don’t want to use just CSS.

So.. please, take the 10 minutes (or probably less) to make this fix on your biggest sites, it could possibly bring your site to the first page next crawl!

Note: Last updated on July 23, 2011

Use the steps below to get free targeted website traffic in any niche.

First, sign up to the Free Traffic System (truly free for 60 one-way backlinks per submission – you get unlimited submissions).

Then, log in to the system and you will be at the “New Article” screen.

You can have 2 links per article. You can use whichever anchor text you wish for each link. You can actually specify several varying anchor text for several varying URLs. The system will just randomly grab a keyword and attach it to a random URL if you do in fact specify more than one of each. In most cases you will probably just use one URL. Also, you might want to target just one keyword for the 1st submission, and perhaps some LSI keywords for future submissions, but it all depends how you roll in the SEO game.

There are 4 boxes for you to put your keywords/URLs into. Add them now.

Add a “spun” article title (more on that in a minute).

Add a “spun” article body and insert the tokens (more info in a minute).

Add a tag. (allowed just one tag)

Now enter a keyword or multiple keywords separated by the pipe “|” symbol. Then click “Get Blogs”. This will allow you to see a list of blogs in your niche (that match the keywords that you specified). These blogs are where your content will be posted with do-follow backlinks. You just select the blogs (up to 30) and the category on the blog for where you want your content to be posted. Your content (which will be unique by the way – part of the “spinning” that I will explain in a sec) will be slowly posted to these blogs over time.

That’s it! The ball is rolling. Now, a word on “spinning”…

I’ve discussed spinning in the past, and the concept of blog content syndication. It allows you to submit an article in a special format that will generate multiple unique versions of the article. This is accomplished by rewriting each sentence or paragraph or other group of text one or more times. The system randomly grabs either the original or a rewrite for each of the “groups of text” that you decided to spin, in order to generate unique renditions of the article.

Inserting tokens: Once the “spun” article is complete, you just have to insert tokens where you would like your links to be. So, just hunt down your first keyword that you want linked and replace it with: %LINK1% and then do the same for the second keyword, except, of course, using the token: %LINK2%

One note on the spun content. You cannot spin the sentence which contains your token. At least I haven’t been able to get it to work so I stopped trying. The thing is, you are only allowed 2 links per article. If you spin the sentence with your %LINK% token, then that token will exist twice. The system looks at that as if you were trying to insert more links than you are allowed. It’s annoying but not a huge deal. I’ll be emailing them about it soon, so maybe it will have been fixed by the time you read this.

Here’s an example of what a “spun” article might look like…

ORIGINAL ARTICLE:
The BodyBugg is a calorie management device that was brought to fame on the hit TV show, The Biggest Loser. This device calculates the number of calories consumed and the number of calories burned throughout the day to determine if weight loss will occur.

SPUN ARTICLE:
[spin]The BodyBugg is a calorie management device that was brought to fame on the hit TV show, The Biggest Loser.|The hit NBC show, The Biggest Loser, helped make the calorie management device, the BodyBugg a household name.[/spin] [spin]This device calculates the number of calories consumed and the number of calories burned throughout the day to determine if weight loss will occur.|As you wear the device throughout the day it will measure caloric intake and expenditure. If more calories were burned than consumed, weight loss will occur.[/spin]

This small example would result in 4 articles that can be generated… the complete original, the complete rewrite, and the 2 mixes. I’m sure there is some sort of formula to calculate how many versions can be created, but if you submit a 450 word article to the Free Traffic System and spin each sentence, I’m sure it will generate enough versions to reach the 30 blogs that you are allowed. I do the exact same thing for other networks and I get 100′s of versions that are generated.

Don’t take this information lightly. Put in the work and you WILL reap the rewards. The reason it is free is because an extra link is added to the bottom of your article when it gets submitted. That link can be mine if you use my link, otherwise it will a link to promote the Free Traffic System. Either way you can get a lot of mileage from this free technique. Now… do it! (then promote it in the same way that I have to get your backlinks in other people’s submissions, and so on, and so on…)

In the past a lot of eBay affiliates followed a simple model… get as many cookies on people’s machines as possible. They weren’t concerned with what the customer purchased or when they purchased it. That approach was short sighted as became evident with the new eBay pricing model.

If you sell someone on a particular product within your website, they click your link to go to eBay and bid on that exact product right away or use the BIN option if available, you deserve to be paid well and eBay will increase the quality of your clicks and pay you more per click. The review/guide style site, as taught in this 9 step guide, falls in line with the new pricing model on eBay. If you grasp what is being taught in the guide, and take action, you will be well on your way to making good money “per click” as an eBay affiliate.

The new way to make money online as an eBay affiliate… write a review on a particular product type/brand, explain to the potential customer why it is good to purchase it on eBay, present them with a few relevant auctions to click on (use phpBay for this), or even a link to search results (no plugin required), they click the link or auction listing, and are more likely going to place a bid or use the BIN feature right away. Think “targeted” customers and you will earn more per click without question.

Of course, you are now going to need traffic and lots of it. One customer just won’t land you $50+ with this new pricing model as was a possibility in the past. Also, you will need quality content.

Using Long Tails And Outsourcing Content

My recommendation… Find long tail keywords to use for each and every review post (or page) and guide. Of course you want low/weak competition keywords with high searches. Use Market Samurai to make getting these long tails very easy.

If you don’t want to write content, try CyberHubOnline.com for cheap content. Tell them your long tail and you can get 300-400 word articles for around $2.00 each when buying in bulk (about 25+ I think). Give them 3 or 4 specific questions to answer about each product as a guideline.

Build Deep Backlinks

Social bookmark and build backlinks to each review. Use a service like Article Marketing Automation (AMA). You can submit articles with links back to your site using your long tail keywords as the anchor text. Create a 550+ word article in the required format for AMA and you can end up with over 100 backlinks to 3 different pages to your site with just 1 submission! Do that until all of your review pages and guides have links back and traffic will flow as you climb the rankings in the search engines. I would submit several that link back to your main page or for any keyword that has higher competition.

Use the launch package as mentioned in this post. It’s a great way to bring in traffic and garner extra backlinks.

Maybe try odesk.com to hire someone to do some blog commenting for you linking back to your site from related blogs. You might pay around $20 for 100 links. Use Comment Kahuna or Market Samurai to find a list of related blogs that offer do-follow links and give that list to the person you hire.

Recap

I feel that with the new pricing model at the eBay Partner Network that the process taught in the N1Way Guide could almost be considered required knowledge. It’s almost as if they knew this change was coming. Follow along and build your sites and you will succeed as an eBay affiliate.

I had several emails lately asking how I create my review sites after reading the N1Way guide. The answer to that question depends a lot on the niche or my goals with the site. There are a lot of things to consider in the creation of the site…

Do you use BANS or WordPress with phpBay? My answer… WordPress with phpBay 99% of the time.

Do you use posts or pages when using WordPress? My answer… Posts 100% of the time (think RSS)… plus there’s way less manual work, use the archives page for what it is meant for.

Where do you get the content? For some of the sites that I want to test or just set on auto-pilot I will use free, unique, automated content. With the automated content, sometimes I check each article before publishing and integrate the appropriate auctions into the posts. For some, the real auto-pilots, I will just insert some generic phpBay code into the post template file.

For 100% unique content (without the backlinks that are in the free automated content), I either look to DigitalPoint forums, TextBroker.com or write it myself. Then I will integrate the auctions in as I publish them.

What about comments?

Sometimes I use comments, sometimes I don’t. Depends on the niche and if it seems to go well with it. Plus, as you may know, monitoring comments can be a bit of a pain sometimes, so with the auto-pilot sites, I just turn them off. Also, if your post ranks for a certain keyword, then some say it may lose the ranking of that keyword if there ends up being several comments over time because the page becomes diluted. Even though that may be valid, on the sites that I consider the most important, the ones I pay the most attention to, I will leave comments on but with a twist…

The WordPress Review Plugin

There is this amazing plugin (I discussed it in the post: Create A Review Site Using WordPress) that can be integrated very well with the sites that you build following the N1Way guide. With this plugin, previous customers of the product that you are promoting, can leave a review and a rating. The plugin takes over the comments in your blog to gather this data. It will also calculate averages, etc. and show Amazon-style ratings on the product posts. It will even put in the necessary microtags that the search engines can read when trying to review data for certain queries! If you aren’t sure what I mean, look up hReview, more search engines are looking at this data and showing preference to sites that implement it. With the WP Review plugin, the microtags are all automatically integrated.

You could probably get fancy with custom fields and some changes to your template file to include auctions below the comments as well. A bit advanced. If enough people ask I will post on how to do it.

Below I’m going to go through some of the different types of backlinks that you can get to your web sites. Just know, I’m not an authority on backlinking, I have never taken the time to test new backlink strategies and measure results, and I’m not an innovator in this area. I will only be discussing what I have learned from other people. Granted, I have used these methods and have seen good results. But for the most part, I just “trust” that this stuff is valid. I understand Google’s goal as a search engine, and the information I have acquired about backlinking makes sense and is in align with my understanding of search engines for the most part. So, with that said, this isn’t “cutting edge” material, it is tried and tested methods and descriptions that have been passed around the SEO circles for years.

Truly, the best method of getting backlinks that is 100% inline with what search engines want is to write good content and let people link to it on their own. But as we know, there are ways to assist in the process…

Backlinks From Different IP Addresses

It is generally accepted that backlinks to your websites from sites that are hosted on different servers other than your own, have more value. So, don’t buy a shared hosting account that allows unlimited web sites and create a network of sites all linking back to your money site. It is easily detectable and not that valuable.

There are numerous ways to get backlinks from different IP addresses. These include (but are not limited to): Social Bookmarking, RSS Submission, Blog Commenting, Directory Submission, Video Sharing, General Article Marketing, Blog Content Syndication, Web 2.0 Property Building (Squidoo, Weebly, etc.), Press Releases, Guest Blogging, etc. etc.

Anchor Text Used In Backlink

The word(s) used that link to your site, the anchor text, is deemed as important. Change it up a bit and use related keywords as well. Just don’t use “click here” all the time, be creative, or focus on specific keywords that you want to rank for.

Slow, Natural Link Building

Sure, it is often said that links should be built gradually and not just stop suddenly, that the same steady pace should, for the most part, continue, in order to be “natural”. I really don’t know about this one myself. What if you wrote something really newsworthy one day and it hit CNN and then suddenly 1000′s of backlinks are being built inside of a week and maybe you even make it to Google Trends. Then, what if it suddenly dies down because it’s old news? That defies the whole theory that slow and steady is the way to go. In fact the news blast seems more natural to me. So, I don’t worry about this a whole lot myself, but it seems that the general consensus is to keep it slow and steady.

Education And Government Backlinks

Backlinks coming from web sites that have a .edu or .gov TLD are said to have more value. Makes sense.

Mixed PR Backlinks

Backlinks coming from sites that have a Google Page Rank of 10 are more valuable than a PR0 of course. Again, makes sense. Getting only backlinks from high PR’s may not be the way to go though. It’s probably good to get backlinks from a range of PR’s, wouldn’t you say? It would just be to obviously fabricated otherwise. I could be wrong of course, because getting backlinks from just PR8′s only for example can occur naturally, it’s just not likely in my opinion.

Deep Linking

Getting links just to your homepage isn’t always best. Some of your best money making content may be at lower levels of your site. Also, you may want to rank some deeper pages for keywords on their own. I also read that if you say, add a page of content to Squidoo, and create more than 1 backlink to your homepage within that 1 page, the first backlink will be the one that is taken into account. The links further down the page won’t pass any juice or anchor text.

Contextual Links

If you have a backlink created in the middle of a paragraph or article that is related to the content on your site, it is much more valuable than say, getting a backlink in the sidebar or footer that is part of a list or cluster of links.

DoFollow Links

A search engine may not give value to a backlink if it has a nofollow tag attached to it. A nofollow tag is essentially telling the search engine (particularly Google) that the backlink does not count as a vote for the linked site. The site the backlink is on is not vouching for your site so the search engine may ignore the anchor text, PR, etc.

What Are The Best Backlinks To Get?

Based on the info above it would seem you want backlinks with the following characteristics:

from a range of IP addresses

containing your choice of, and a variety of, anchor text

perhaps created slowly

from .edu and .gov sites on occasion if you can

from mixed PR, high PR if you can

to different pages of your site, not just the homepage

within a paragraph of related content (contextual, rather than clustered)

dofollow if possible

Now, if you can get backlinks like described in the list above you are on the right track. Of the backlinking procedures that I follow for my niche sites, there is one method that covers all of the backlink characteristics (except maybe getting links from education and government sites), and that’s from blog content syndication. <- That's a link to a post I wrote on it a few days back.

With blog content syndication you can essentially get 100's of backlinks with the above criteria created slowly over time with just a couple hours work or less up front. Outsource it and it's just 10 or 15 minutes of your time. Some of my thriving sites, like the one described here where I have made almost $400 a month for the past few months, this is the only method of backlink building I put effort into. And for that particular site discussed, I only did 2 submissions.

A 3rd party company, Article Marketing Automation, offers a network of sites with different IP addresses to automatically post content on. The tools make certain the content is unique and lets you create backlinks with a variety of anchor text, even with just 1 submission. You are allowed as many submissions, for as many sites as you want. Last I checked, if you sign up for Article Marketing Automation’s free blog content service they are letting you try the blog content syndication service out for free.

I bought the 9 step guide last night (you know, the one from the BANS guys, showing you how to build niche sites promoting eBay auctions?). The launch email came at a time when I was finished the rest of my work for the day and I just got a lump sum of PayPal money, so I bought the thing. It was about $28 Canadian when I bought it. Well worth it. I like to think I know a thing or two about niche sites, well after reading the guide, I think I may have been working too hard on them…

I very well may have been over-marketing my sites, wasting my efforts, according to what I read in this guide. Anyway, it is a step by step guide, very well written, and gives instructions for both BANS and WordPress (with phpBay). Here’s an example site that they created with WordPress: http://forgedgolfirons.com/

You see, the auctions aren’t up front and in your face. They want to promote VALUE, and that is in the reviews and guides they wrote. They say they want to give value, then just bring the targeted customer closer to the till to make the purchase without focusing on any mind tricks or voodoo (my words, highly paraphrased). They want to fill a need, then the sales just follow.

They focus mostly on development. They don’t market like crazy and scramble for backlinks and setup tons of profiles on social sites. I venture to say that they almost have the “build it and they will come mentality”. They walk the walk. They’ve been doing it for over 4 years. These guys (BANS guys remember) aren’t going to lay out lies for obvious reasons. I have to honestly say that without the reputation behind them I wouldn’t believe it would work. I am a big advocate of creating lots and lots and lots backlinks. I spend a good part of my day doing it for some of my partnered sites.

Perhaps it’s time to switch more to this model. It suits me more to be honest. It’s the part that I’m good at and that I love. I’m actually seeking partners for this right now. Someone to create the content and I would do the rest. Build 2 sites, 1 site for me, 1 for the writer. If you are a writer, get the guide, get on the same page with me with this thing, then get a hold of me. If you are a marketer, get the guide, then make some loot!

Qassia is a free service that encourages the promotion of your blogs and sites by letting you add dofollow links to the content pages you create on there. In addition, you are given 5 ad spots that you can use to promote practically anything that you want.

How Qassia Works

The way it works is quite simple. You provide Qassia with “Intel” and you can attach any of your sites links to that piece of Intel. You can add as many sites as you want to your account, but just one per Intel. Your piece of Intel has it’s own page on Qassia’s site. The link you attach to this specific Intel shows up underneath the Intel under the heading “PLEASE VISIT THE CONTRIBUTOR’S WEBSITE”. It shows a screenshot of your site and provides two links. One link is the title of your site using any anchor text of your choice and the second link is the description of your site that you provided. The second link, I believe, doesn’t provide that much value though. Apparently if there is more than one link on a page pointing to the same web page, only the first link passes any link juice and only that bit of anchor text is taken into account. Still, you get one sexy do follow link pointing to any web page or site of your choice.

5 Advertising Slots

Qassia gives you control of 5 advertising slots. I believe 4 show up on your profile page and all 5 show up on your Intel pages.

Qassia Best Practices

In my opinion a lot of people are using Qassia incorrectly. You are allowed to, and encouraged to provide Intel on a variety of topics, you just aren’t allowed to promote any websites directly within it. That’s what the CONTRIBUTOR’S WEBSITE links are for underneath. However, the web site that you attach to a piece of Intel should be in some way related. I think that would make the link more powerful SEO-wise, etc. if it is themed. But I see people doing things like creating Intel on “dirt biking” and attaching a website link for “dog training”. The person reading your Intel probably isn’t interested and it is probably given less weight for SEO purposes but I can’t be certain.

As far as the 5 ad slots go, you can’t specify ads for each Intel so, either use one uniform theme for your account where the ads match the sites and the Intel, or just use AdSense so that the ads are dynamic and will always match the content.

Drawbacks Of Qassia

Any site that allows you to create a profile and add web site links to I usually promote the profile page a little bit by Social Bookmarking it etc… you know.. promoting your promotions. But in the case of Qassia, the web sites links are all nofollow on the profile page so I didn’t bother. The Intel pages however would be good to promote. They use the title you provided for the Intel as title for the page AND in the URL so you can probably get them ranking for certain keywords eventually.

Often with Web 2.0 sites you are given an RSS feed that you can submit to RSS directories and/or use in a mashup with other feeds for your other web properties in the same niche. I didn’t see one on Qassia. It would be nice to have a feed with all of your Intel and at the bottom of each Intel in the feed have your dofollow link for the attached website appended. But as of now, it doesn’t exist.

Well, that’s it… Now get out there and do some backlinking. Sign up to Qassia here.
