I was asked recently to explain one simple way to which I go about getting backlinks to my site… so here it is..

Here’s an explanation for what I find to be the simplest in terms of the amount of time spent and the number of backlinks gained… (note: some or all of the steps can be outsourced)

First, let me explain a scenario to understand the purpose..

Say I have an article on one of my sites that I want to rank for the term… “chia seeds recipes” (meaning, someone types that term in a search engine and a link to my article shows up at or near the top of the organic results. i.e. the non-paid results).

What I would do is find (or come up with) a handful of keywords (or keyphrases) that can be used in place of “chia seeds recipes” in a sentence where the sentence still makes sense. Sometimes I might come up with just one, sometimes 10 or 20, sometimes none.. Either way…

The reason… I want links back to my article with the anchor text “chia seeds recipes” (and all the other terms I gathered, if any) to help help with my rankings. The anchor text used in the link gives the search engine a clear indication of what the article is about and, among other factors (including the number of links), helps in determining the location of the article in the search results.

Now.. I write.. or have someone else write an article (about 350-400 words) relating to the topic.. in this case “chia seeds”. Then.. I spin.. or have someone else “spin” the article.

Spinning involves modifying the article with special tags so that the article can be put through a “spinning engine” that spits out unique versions of the article. When spinning you come up with words or phrases to replace existing words or phrases in the article, at the same time keeping the integrity and readability of the article in tact. (<a href="http://keithjameslock.com/free-article-spinner-content-professor-feedback/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow")>Here’s A Free Web-Based Spinning Tool Here)

Once the article is spun.. you run it through one or more “spinning engines” that will create/distribute unique versions of your articles around the web. The articles that get distributed have your backlinks within them (more on that in a second). The places where your articles get published include blogs and article directories around the web that have setup a relationship with the spinning engine to get your content (i.e. they want your content and will link to you in exchange for it). The articles usually get published on blogs related to your topic (which provide extra value for the backlink), or at least in a category that relates to your topic. Your one article can generate 1000′s of unique articles so submitting them to a variety of networks is often a decent idea. Each spinning engine has unique features which include:

1) Monthly, yearly or lifetime cost for use
2) Number of articles allowed to be submitted based on membership level
3) Number of blogs or articles directories that can be submitted to from your one main “spun” article (could be 10, 100, 1000′s or unlimited)
4) Number of backlinks per article
5) Placement of backlinks (within content or within a resource or signature box)
6) Frequency of submissions (some let you set it to 5/day, 10/day, etc.) – so.. one submission can generate 5 backlinks per day for you for several months for example!

As far as backlinks go, I usually create one for the main article I want to rank for (using the variety of anchor texts I gathered in the beginning), one to the homepage (using my main keywords for my site), and if allowed one to a category page as well.

The spinning engine will automatically rotate through your keywords (in the same way it does using the alternate words and phrases added during the “spinning” process) to use as the anchor text in the article that gets submitted to the blog or article directory.

I submit my spun article to several spinning engines to get maximum effect. It is a bit pricy to keep the memberships but it is well worth it. Each spinning engine (or network) has different requirements for each submission so it does take a bit of time. When writing/spinning/submitting the article myself it can take 3-5 hours or more. There are cheap shortcuts but the value just isn’t the same so I take care to do it properly (write an original, quality article.. and hand spin it)

Here’s the process in short..

1) Get 1-3 links (depending on network(s) submitting to) and the keywords you want to rank them for
2) Write an article
3) Spin the article
4) Submit the article (inserting links where appropriate)

My Writing/Spinning/Submission Service – $147

If you don’t feel like paying the subscription costs for these network and don’t feel like writing/spinning articles.. then send me 2 URL’s (and optionally the keywords you want to rank for).. and for $147 I will..

1) Do the extra keyword research if necessary
2) Write a 350-450 word article
3) Spin the article
4) Work your links in
5) Submit to SIX networks (resulting in 100′s – 1000′s of backlinks)
6) Provide you screenshots of the submissions to each network

The concept of large scale backlink building, as a truly efficient way of driving valuable traffic to your website and achieving front page rankings in search engines, is no novelty. Article syndication is by far one of the top ways to obtain backlinks that search engines take into account in their ranking algorithms. However, manually spinning and submitting articles is usually a tedious task that requires a lot of time and effort to yield any noticeable effects.

Because of this, until recently, top performance was only within the reach or wealthy marketers that are able to invest impressive financial and human resources in search engine optimization strategies. However, Noble Samurai launched a product with the potential to completely revolutionize article syndication and make large scale backlinking available to any online marketer. Although the upcoming Article Samurai shares some common characteristics with another web-based ‘Samurai’ product called Market Samurai, it is a stand alone tool that’s linked up to a vast online network of article directories and blogs, and it enables users to quickly and consistently disseminate valuable content over the Internet. This process, dubbed “smart syndication”, practically allows marketers to submit several hours’ worth of work in just 5 to 10 minutes.

The main advantage of Article Samurai is that it is a complete linkbuilding system that virtually unifies several marketing tools. Everything you need to create, spin and submit articles is provided to you in one easy to use software. In addition, it is an entirely white hat technique that proposes a fair and simple trade: you allow websites to use your content, and in return they give you backlinks. The automated program ensures that each submission abides to each directory’s rules, thus avoiding the all too common human errors that occur when trying to syndicate a lot of content to many different websites. Moreover, you will be submitting to a diverse range of active website and blog networks that are owned by real people.

Caste studies performed to test the efficiency of this program have achieved over 12000 backlinks for a brand new website over a period of just a few months, as well as over 600 page one rankings, with 69 keywords hitting the number 1 position. To test its market impact, the tool will undergo a trial period where it is released to only 500 “foundation subscribers” of the product Market Samurai. If it takes off, Article Samurai will later be released to the general public to allow any online marketer the opportunity to use this amazing resource.

Article Samurai is an upcoming product from Noble Samurai, which enables online marketers to spin, and then submit articles to a vast article network, within just a few minutes. The network consists of over 50,000 article directories and blogs, and it is possibly the world’s largest at this time. This ambitious service has been tested by the developing team, and it is said to be able to take a website from 0 to over 12,000 backlinks in only a few months.

To achieve this very high standard, the developers of this program teamed up with numerous large article directories, which may be able to ensure a marketer’s success in the shortest of time. However, the service will initially be accessible to only 500 people, as to avoid overwhelming the article networks with a vast number of submissions. Since most directories and blogs will actually review each article individually before posting, and to ensure that each article is unique and provides value, the Noble Samurai team has opted for a closed launch of their new product. Later on, the product will become available to anyone interested, however, for the time being, Article Samurai holds a waiting list of over 300,000 online marketers. The upcoming limited launch is not intended to generate profit, but to actually test the bearing capacity of the blog and article directory networks that have partnered with Noble Samurai to bring this large project together.

This limited launch will also allow the development team to identify, isolate and fix any potential bugs that might be be affecting the software, and for this purpose, the 500 initial users can provide a broader perspective and useful feedback. Aside from Article Samurai, Noble Samurai currently offers two products – Market Samurai (a simple software which offers keyword research services and rank tracking) and Domain Samurai (a user-friendly domain registration tool). The 500 marketers that are to be part of the trial for the new program will all be Market Samurai subscribers. Over the course of a week, these subscribers will be sent trial launch emails. They will then be able to easily sign up and follow the directions provided for them in the Article Samurai launch videos.

With that said, you may be in luck, by the time you are reading this Article Samurai may have opened it’s doors to the public… click here to find out.

Article writing, spinning, and syndication services refer to the creation and dissemination of online articles for marketing purposes. Writing, spinning and syndication are usually part of search engine optimization strategies aimed at promoting content on specific websites, by generating a great number of backlinks in the shortest time. These techniques are used to help websites rank well in search engines. Article directories with good page ranks receive high amounts of readers and are generally invested with a certain degree of authority by search engines such as Google. This means that articles posted on these directories, that link back to content on a marketer’s website, can positively influence that website’s page rank.

Many website owners believe that spinning (which refers to rewriting an article through the use of synonyms and altered phrases, as to provide a slightly different viewpoint on a subject) is an excellent way of meeting SERP standards, while still adding some value to the already available content on the Internet. Therefore, spinning can produce numerous articles on the same subject, and it can be considered a viable SEO solution, as opposed to writing numerous unique articles on one specific subject, which can sometimes be extremely difficult, if not impossible to achieve in a short period of time.

Article spinning is usually performed with the aid of spinning software, and this can be offered as an online service, some free, or a downloadable program. The text obtained through spinning is known as ‘spintax’, and it is a contraction of the term ‘spinning syntax’. In spintax, each word appears in brackets along with several of its synonyms, depending on how many final versions of the same article are required. After most of the words and phrases in an article are matched to their synonyms, the spinning software randomly combines those synonyms to obtain several new and coherent articles. As expected, the more article versions are needed, the less varied is the content therein.

SEO experts may choose to submit each spun version manually, or pass the spintax through article syndication software, which produces and distributes articles to popular directories. This automated process can save website owners a lot of time, as well as financial resources, while delivering consistent results, fast and easy. Numerous online programs designed to educate and assist online marketers (whether through article creation and syndication or integrated strategies that can provide targeted traffic in any niche) are available, and supply their link building services at minimum costs. Free Traffic System, Jet Submitter, Article Samaurai and ezArticleLink are only some of these very efficient programs. Most offer spinning and submitting services, while others, like the popular Noble Samurai (creator of Article Samurai), can assist marketers in other ways as well, such as by providing keyword research software (like the free Market Samurai) and domain name finding tools.

Partly due to the growing online competition between different marketers over the same (or similar) keywords and phrases, the use of automated article spinning and syndication programs has become almost a necessity for success. It is virtually impossible to achieve similar results by manually distributing articles, since online programs can submit to tens (or even hundreds) of directories within just a few minutes, every day on autopilot.

JetSubmitter is always adding to (and sometimes removing from) the set of article directories that you can potentially submit your articles to. Remember, JetSubmitter submits your articles ONLY to the article directories that you have accounts with. While this is an automated process for the most part, you might be missing out on a large number of submissions if they’ve added a whole new whack of directories since you first started.

I just did it myself and I went from 317 accounts to 524 ( so far )! And since one article can be “spun” into 1,000+ versions, might as well use them!

Use the steps below to create a new set of article directory accounts to submit your content to. In the steps below I did the “optional” email forwarding step because some directories will not allow you to create accounts with them when using an email account from a free email provider like Gmail. So, to get accounts at those places, the extra email forwarding step is required. But don’t worry, it’s easy and well worth the time and effort.

Setup a new Gmail Account.

Enable IMAP (under Settings|Forwarding and POP/IMAP).

Buy a cheap domain from GoDaddy to use just for email accounts (a .info will work just fine).

Setup a forwarding email address on your new domain and set it to forward to the Gmail account from Step 1.

Login to your JetSubmitter.

Click the green “Create Directory Accounts” button under “Account Projects”.

Specify a profile name (can be anything, I usually use the pen name for the new article directory accounts I am creating).

Enter your Gmail email and password, your forward email, a password to use for the new article directory accounts and a first & last name, address and phone number to use with those accounts.

Save the info.

Click the “Attempt to create accounts at new sites” link, or “Edit” if you need to fix anything up.

Your Gmail account should now start filling with confirmation emails sent from the article directories. JetSubmitter will login to your Gmail account and verify those emails for you automatically.

That’s it… now when adding an article to a new project you will have a new set of article directory accounts to submit your article to. To choose the new set of accounts, just drop down the “Account Profile (accounts to use for submission)” list and pick the one you just created.

Additional Tips For Extra Mileage

Use this free spinner tool to spin your content (and optionally get a free seed article).

Generate several “spun” versions of your article (with the click of a button) to manually submit to popular article directories.

Use your spin-ready content, not only at JetSubmitter, but at Free Traffic System as well.

As mentioned in the post: Article And Blog Posts: From Keyword Research To Promotion I submit spun articles to JetSubmitter for distribution to the article directories.

It depends on the service, and the type of service used whether the article directory accounts that are created belong to you or are shared amongst the other users of the system. Accounts don’t play a role in blog content syndication networks (like AMA), but they do in article spinning/submission engines like JetSubmitter.

I like the way JetSubmitter handles accounts because they take measures to make certain that you get the maximum account approval rate, and the onus is on you to distribute valuable content to be sure the accounts stay open. These 2 things people probably don’t pay much attention to but they are very important. After all… the more unique versions of your article that get submitted the more backlinks you will get in the end. This means you need to have as many accounts open and running as possible.

If you spin your content properly it can probably generate more unique versions than there are article directories that exist.

So… how does JetSubmitter handle account creation? First off, the accounts are yours, not shared with the other users, so if you start submitting crap content and the article directory owner gets fed up and closes your account, then kiss all of your previously submitted articles (and therefore backlinks) good bye. But at least you have control over that.

Also, JetSubmitter is aware that plenty of article directories will not allow the use of free email accounts (like Hotmail and Gmail) for account creation… but there is one problem with that.. the only way JetSubmitter can “auto-verify” an email address (necessary during account creation at most of the directories) is by “auto-logging in” to Gmail accounts. But they chose not to let you miss out on getting accounts setup at JUST the places that accept Gmail email addresses. So… here’s the process…

Setup a Gmail account. Be sure not to use an existing account because this account will receive a ton of emails.. mostly worthless stuff.

Buy a cheap domain name from GoDaddy or NameCheap. Even buying a .info will work.

Setup an email forward. Something like.. forward all email that goes to email@mynewdomain.info to mynewgamilacct@gmail.com.

Within the JetSubmitter control panel it will ask for both your domain attached email (email@mynewdomain.info) as well as your Gmail email (mynewgamilacct@gmail.com). Also enter your Gmail password so JetSubmitter can login to your Gmail account to auto-verify the email address.

That’s it! Two simple measures to ensure you end up with a bunch more directories to submit your content to.

In this post I will go through the steps of adding an article to the Free Traffic System (free version).

I will assume that your article has already been spun. For more info how to spin you can look at the video tutorials on the inside of Free Traffic System. Just be sure you are using these tags: [spin] and [/spin] and using a pipe symbol (above the Enter key), which looks like: | to separate words and phrases within your spin tags.

Each “spun” version of the article must be 450+ words. The free version of Free Traffic System allows 2 free links posted on 30 blogs.

1) Sign up for your free account at Free Traffic System.
2) Go into the ‘New Article’ screen.
3) Add your keywords (anchor text) and URLs.

You can use as a good number of keywords for each link. The keywords must be interchangeable because FTS will be randomly choosing one and adding it to your content.

You may also add more than one URL for each link that gets created. In general you will probably be using just one but this is handy if you want to create backlinks for a bunch of Web 2.0 properties for example.

4) Next paste in your “spun” title. You can click the ‘Check’ button to be sure your spins aren’t broken and to see how many unique titles will be created.

5) Paste in the article body including the tokens. The tokens are placeholders where you want the links to show up. You can use %LINK1% and %LINK2%. Since these articles will eventually be syndicated onto blogs the links can be anywhere within the content. However, if you are bringing your spun content over from a different distribution network used for article marketing, you can also paste your resource box in at the bottom if you wanted to. Then just replace the URLs with the link tokens so FTS knows where to use a random keyword for the anchor text, and a random URL (assuming you used more than one in step 3) for the link.

EXPERT TIP: If you are in fact pulling in spun content from another article distribution network you can also bring in the article summary (which is required on those networks) and use it at the top of the body of your article in FTS to get the word count over 450 if necessary.

6) Add a tag for your article. Only 1 tag is allowed for free users.

7) Now it’s time to find the 30 (or less) blogs that you want to post to. This is kind of where things get a little clunky. The first step is to enter several words (separated by the pipe symbol) and click ‘Get Blogs’ and the system will look for blogs (that you can post content to) matching those words.

It will then display a list (sometimes quite large) of all the blogs matching your request. It will show the title of the blog and all of the categories of the blog below it. The categories all have check boxes next to them. I really think that they should be option buttons because you are only allowed to choose one.. but the system will pop up a javascript error if you pick more than one catgeory for a blog. If that happens, just lick “OK” and move on.

Important: Don’t let your article get rejected because you’ll have to start all over. You see… even though a catgeory may seem relevant be sure to look at the title of the blog also to be sure it is relevant. They can (and will) deny your article if you try to post to an irrelevant blog… which is great to maintain integrity of the system.. however the system is still flawed. First, they don’t send you a message telling you it’s been declined and you have to manually request that they delete the denied article from the system and then you have to start all over. Learn from my mistakes and take time with your submissions.

Once you choose all the blogs you want to submit to (the system will tell you if you picked too many so you don’t have to keep count), then press Enter. I’ve found that the submit button at the bottom doesn’t always submit when clicked for some reason, but I have never had a problem when using the Enter button.

After that the system will start spitting out the article and generating backlinks for you! Any questions you know what to do…

There are content networks that exist that offer free, unique, automated content to anyone interested.

The way it works is, marketers with a monthly subscription, will submit content to the network, usually in the form of 2-3 articles merged together in a special format. They will include links back to their sites within the content with whichever anchor text they want (depending on the network, the links might be in the resource section at the end of the article, or they might be within the article itself).

Well, with the content submission, there are easy to use tools at the network that assist in magically creating unique versions of the content. I can’t discuss exactly how the system works on the inside but know this, it does not create machine generated junk, it generates quality articles from the merged document that was submitted. Sometimes in the neighbourhood of 100′s to 1000′s of unique, quality content is created! OK, so that’s the paid end of the system in a nutshell, now for the free content…

If you have a blog, or in some cases an article directory, and in fact, with one of the networks it doesn’t matter your platform, then you can sign up to the free end of the system to start receiving unique content automatically for practically any niche.

I have been working with three of the biggest, well established content syndication networks, both on the free and paid end. My reviews for the free end of Article Marketing Automation, Syndicate Kahuna and Unique Article Wizard are posted below.

The quality of content on all of the networks that I reviewed are anywhere between “not bad” and “great”. They are all pretty much equal in this regard, in my opinion. The good thing is, you aren’t forced to auto-publish any content, so you can “reject” or remove an article or post and it will never see the light of day.

Unique Article Wizard

Unique Article Wizard (UAW) is my top pick as far as the free content networks go. The content that you get from UAW is much like you would see on article directories where the links show up in the resource box at the bottom, and it shows the pen name of the author. This content is great for running a niche article directory but can be used on blog platforms as well.

UAW supports several platforms, including email to retrieve content. The fact that you can just pull in content by email and not specify your platform makes it the most versatile system. You simply copy and paste the content anywhere that you want it to go. There are also easy to use plugins created for popular content management systems including Article Beach, Article Dashboard, Article Friendly, Article MS, Drupal, Joomla and WordPress. It also lets you auto-post to Blogspot blogs, so it isn’t restricted to just self-hosted platforms.

The filtering options for the content that you want to receive are more flexible than the other networks. You can specify keywords for the content that you want and/or select existing categories. You aren’t forced to select both categories AND keywords. A great feature of UAW is that you can specify negative (or exclusion) keywords as well. In other words you can specify that you want to receive articles from the “health” category as long as the keyword “hoodia” doesn’t exist within them. This offers great flexibility and very targeted content.

The “tags” or “keywords” that come in with this content seem to be auto-generated and don’t make much sense. Often you will see single letter tags. It’s a bit annoying but easily fixed.

You can also specify that you do not want video and images showing up in the content you receive, unlike the other networks.

Although 1000′s of unique renditions of the article that you receive will exist on the network, from my experience so far, they seem to do a pretty good job of not sending you multiple versions of the same root article for the same site.

A really cool feature of UAW is that you can get a link added to the bottom of each article that you receive that let’s someone republish the content on their own site, but not the same version. They must signup to UAW to get that content and they will receive one of the unique versions, and when they sign up they use your affiliate link, and if they go on to become a paid memeber, you get credit for it. Also, the republished version will include a link back to your site where they originally pulled the article from, including the anchor text you chose when setting this feature up! This feature alone makes this my top pick.

So, all in all, UAW is the most flexible system with support for the most platforms. Also, if you are submitting content to UAW, it’s nice that your content will be spread across multiple directories, blogs and other websites, instead of just blogs.

Article Marketing Automation

Article Marketing Automation (AMA) is a pretty decent network for getting free blog content. I’ve been using it for quite awhile now. It’s a tie with Syndicate Kahuna for my 2nd pick.

There are no plugins or anything to install with AMA. AMA submits content to any platform that supports the XML-RPC API or Atom API, which includes WordPress, Drupal, Joomla and also some non self-hosted platforms. You have to specify your login credentials to AMA in order for their system to get access to your platform.

When choosing content you pick from a huge list of categories or subcatgeories. You cannot specify inclusion or exclusion keywords though making it less targeted. For example, I couldn’t pull “acai berry” related content and leave it on auto-pilot because there is no “acai berry” category and I couldn’t specify that as a keyword. An example of where exclusion keywords would be handy… I’m getting content for a video game site that I setup and I get great content for it but the bulk of it has to do with “world of warcraft” which I don’t want for this particular site. So, having exclusion keywords would be good in this situation. But, since I don’t auto post the content, I receive an email which contains an “accept” and “reject” link so I only publish the content that I really want.

A good thing about the email approval system with AMA is that it won’t put the content on your blog at all, not even as a draft like the other systems do. This way, that content gets put back in the pool for someone else to pickup and doesn’t go to waste. I know that there are sometimes 1000′s of versions anyway so it might not matter but if the person submitting the content was lazy with the “spinning” of there content, then they might only have a dozen or so unique articles available so every single one is important in that case.

A big drawback with AMA is that you will receive numerous unique versions of the same root article for the same site. Apparently not something they considered when building the system. Syndicate Kahuna, on the other hand, does a great job with keeping multiple unique versions away from the same site.

Category matching with AMA is great. If you want content from multiple categories because your blog has multiple subjects than AMA handles this well. If you want content from the “weight loss” catgeory on AMA you can tell it to drop the content in your “lose the pounds” category and so on. AMA is probably the best of the 3 as far as category matching goes.

AMA does a good job of monitoring the submitted content by keeping it in the proper categories for the most part, while UAW seems to let more slip into the wrong categories. Also AMA’s tags seem to be more human generated and are fitting for the content. Also, when turning on AMA, you can expect to receive content very quickly, sometimes within minutes of activation.

Syndicate Kahuna

Syndicate Kahuna is another great network for getting free blog content. It is a close tie with Article Marketing Automation. It depends a lot of the blog I develop, whether I choose AMA over SK. For example, since AMA doesn’t allow keyword selection but only categories, when I created my automated “acai berry” blog, I used SK for the content. With SK you must pick the categories from which you want your content, plus you must pick the keywords that you want to exist in the content of your chosen categories. This allows you to get very targeted.

EDIT: It just came to my attention that you can match up categories now with the existing categories on your blog. There is a small link in the SK welcome screen that gives you can alternate way of adding a site. I selected an option to bypass the Welcome screen awhile back so I completely missed it.

I don’t like the way the category matching goes though. It’s flexible in one way and not another. When choosing the categories that you want content from, you are able to change the SK category names to match the categories on your blog, which is great. For example if you want content from the “weight loss” category on SK and you want it in your “lose the fat” category, you just have to change the SK category name. If you don’t change the name, SK will create a new category on your blog.

What isn’t flexible however, is that the keywords you specify apply to all your chosen categories. So, if you wanted to get “natural remedy” content from SK’s “health” category to be put in your “natural remedy” catgeory AND you also wanted “weight loss” content from SK’s “weight loss” category to be put in your “weight loss” category you couldn’t do it with SK, because SK will looking to both of your selected categories for content matching both of your keywords.

EDIT: It just came to my attention that you can match up categories now with the existing categories on your blog. There is a small link in the SK welcome screen that gives you can alternate way of adding a site. I selected an option to bypass the Welcome screen awhile back so I completely missed it.

So, SK forces you to get very “micro-niche” in a way. But you know, a lot of the most successful affiliate sites are very micro-niche anyway, so SK may be doing us a favour.

SK only works with WordPress at the moment. You must upload a binary file to your server so that SK can communicate with WordPress via XML RPC. There is no need to supply SK with your login credentials. EDIT: You now have the option to use XML RPC (by supplying your login credentials) or uploading the binary file.

You can filter out content with certain keywords as well as content that contains links from certain domains. Also, you can opt in or out of getting adult related content. It’s off by default.

As mentioned, I get content from all 3 networks. They all serve a different purpose in a sense, and serve the same purpose in another sense. Also, picking a combo of either SK and UAW, or AMA and UAW to submit content to, you will be getting tons and tons of backlinks with your chosen anchor text (or random anchor text), in a slow, natural progression. You can submit unlimited content for unlimited domains on these networks. Some marketers say that article marketing and/or blog content syndication is all they ever do for SEO! With one of the combos mentioned above, you will be covering both article marketing and blog content syndication but with unique content across the web, rather than the same article posted everywhere with typical article marketing. The AMA and UAW combo is the cheapest package.

Below I’m going to go through some of the different types of backlinks that you can get to your web sites. Just know, I’m not an authority on backlinking, I have never taken the time to test new backlink strategies and measure results, and I’m not an innovator in this area. I will only be discussing what I have learned from other people. Granted, I have used these methods and have seen good results. But for the most part, I just “trust” that this stuff is valid. I understand Google’s goal as a search engine, and the information I have acquired about backlinking makes sense and is in align with my understanding of search engines for the most part. So, with that said, this isn’t “cutting edge” material, it is tried and tested methods and descriptions that have been passed around the SEO circles for years.

Truly, the best method of getting backlinks that is 100% inline with what search engines want is to write good content and let people link to it on their own. But as we know, there are ways to assist in the process…

Backlinks From Different IP Addresses

It is generally accepted that backlinks to your websites from sites that are hosted on different servers other than your own, have more value. So, don’t buy a shared hosting account that allows unlimited web sites and create a network of sites all linking back to your money site. It is easily detectable and not that valuable.

There are numerous ways to get backlinks from different IP addresses. These include (but are not limited to): Social Bookmarking, RSS Submission, Blog Commenting, Directory Submission, Video Sharing, General Article Marketing, Blog Content Syndication, Web 2.0 Property Building (Squidoo, Weebly, etc.), Press Releases, Guest Blogging, etc. etc.

Anchor Text Used In Backlink

The word(s) used that link to your site, the anchor text, is deemed as important. Change it up a bit and use related keywords as well. Just don’t use “click here” all the time, be creative, or focus on specific keywords that you want to rank for.

Slow, Natural Link Building

Sure, it is often said that links should be built gradually and not just stop suddenly, that the same steady pace should, for the most part, continue, in order to be “natural”. I really don’t know about this one myself. What if you wrote something really newsworthy one day and it hit CNN and then suddenly 1000′s of backlinks are being built inside of a week and maybe you even make it to Google Trends. Then, what if it suddenly dies down because it’s old news? That defies the whole theory that slow and steady is the way to go. In fact the news blast seems more natural to me. So, I don’t worry about this a whole lot myself, but it seems that the general consensus is to keep it slow and steady.

Education And Government Backlinks

Backlinks coming from web sites that have a .edu or .gov TLD are said to have more value. Makes sense.

Mixed PR Backlinks

Backlinks coming from sites that have a Google Page Rank of 10 are more valuable than a PR0 of course. Again, makes sense. Getting only backlinks from high PR’s may not be the way to go though. It’s probably good to get backlinks from a range of PR’s, wouldn’t you say? It would just be to obviously fabricated otherwise. I could be wrong of course, because getting backlinks from just PR8′s only for example can occur naturally, it’s just not likely in my opinion.

Deep Linking

Getting links just to your homepage isn’t always best. Some of your best money making content may be at lower levels of your site. Also, you may want to rank some deeper pages for keywords on their own. I also read that if you say, add a page of content to Squidoo, and create more than 1 backlink to your homepage within that 1 page, the first backlink will be the one that is taken into account. The links further down the page won’t pass any juice or anchor text.

Contextual Links

If you have a backlink created in the middle of a paragraph or article that is related to the content on your site, it is much more valuable than say, getting a backlink in the sidebar or footer that is part of a list or cluster of links.

DoFollow Links

A search engine may not give value to a backlink if it has a nofollow tag attached to it. A nofollow tag is essentially telling the search engine (particularly Google) that the backlink does not count as a vote for the linked site. The site the backlink is on is not vouching for your site so the search engine may ignore the anchor text, PR, etc.

What Are The Best Backlinks To Get?

Based on the info above it would seem you want backlinks with the following characteristics:

from a range of IP addresses

containing your choice of, and a variety of, anchor text

perhaps created slowly

from .edu and .gov sites on occasion if you can

from mixed PR, high PR if you can

to different pages of your site, not just the homepage

within a paragraph of related content (contextual, rather than clustered)

dofollow if possible

Now, if you can get backlinks like described in the list above you are on the right track. Of the backlinking procedures that I follow for my niche sites, there is one method that covers all of the backlink characteristics (except maybe getting links from education and government sites), and that’s from blog content syndication. <- That's a link to a post I wrote on it a few days back.

With blog content syndication you can essentially get 100's of backlinks with the above criteria created slowly over time with just a couple hours work or less up front. Outsource it and it's just 10 or 15 minutes of your time. Some of my thriving sites, like the one described here where I have made almost $400 a month for the past few months, this is the only method of backlink building I put effort into. And for that particular site discussed, I only did 2 submissions.

A 3rd party company, Article Marketing Automation, offers a network of sites with different IP addresses to automatically post content on. The tools make certain the content is unique and lets you create backlinks with a variety of anchor text, even with just 1 submission. You are allowed as many submissions, for as many sites as you want. Last I checked, if you sign up for Article Marketing Automation’s free blog content service they are letting you try the blog content syndication service out for free.

I just wanted to put together a quick post to talk about a few different types of review sites that I use.

Also, I will give some examples and the tools that are needed.

You’d be surprised at how well these work. It takes a bit of work of course, but when they are up and running, you could potentially have a network of money-earners that run on autopilot.

Pick a type and go with it. They ALL work!

Typical 3-5 Product or Service Review Site; Still Works

1st you have the typical review site that you see all over the place. A marketer lists 3-5 similar products or services, gives a “review”, or better yet, gives facts, about each one. Each review has links to an affiliate offer where the customer can make a purchase.

As an example, I built one of these sites about a year ago (I sold it recently) that did very well. I was simply running ads in the content network on Google to get traffic. Anyway, the site reviewed 3 software packages from RegNow.com that allow someone to convert DVDs into Zune-playable files. Here’s the site: ZuneMovieConverters.com and here’s one of the landing pages: http://zunemovieconverters.com/dvd-to-zune-review. The site just uses WordPress and I used an HTML table in the post to format the text properly. Make sure there is other content on the site besides the review and it will do better. That’s why it’s nice to use WordPress, it makes it easier to add other content.

Another review site that is apparently doing quite well… between $2,000 and $3,000 per month according to the owner is this one: http://www.specialonlinebusinessreviewauthority.com/

I’m not sure what the site uses but it can easily be done in WordPress if you know how to edit themes. The owner is trying to sell the site right now for $27,000! All sales come from organic traffic too! He used strictly article marketing to accomplish that. Do not underestimate the power of article marketing. To potentially accomplish the same thing (it’ll cost you about $47 minimum per month), sign up with AMA, and submit an article or 2 per week for a year (1 article can translate into 100′s of backlinks slowly over time). In the first couple of articles use the anchor text of your main keyword. In the rest, use varying anchor text. Find related keywords using the Google External Keyword Tool to use as the anchor text. Then sell your site for 10x monthly profit and break me off a slice!

Customer Review Site

I love these customer review sites. I will be building more of these this year. You simply setup WordPress and write posts discussing facts or properties of several related products or services. You use a special plugin that will accept customer reviews in the form of comments. The customer can also rate the product based on any factor you wish. An overall rating will be shown next to the post. Here’s an example of a site that reviews different hosting companies: http://www.awardwinninghosts.com/. I asked the author of the plugin the best way to get the reviews going initially and he said he just visits forums at the product/company web sites and, if allowed, asks other people in the forum (i.e. customers) to come over to the site and tell him what they think.

Check out the plugin site and you can see other cool examples.

Micro-Niche Review/Guide Websites

These sites are also very cool. They offer great value to your potential customer. You provide lots and lots of valuable content that the search engines will gobble up. The content will be guides, like “how-to” or “top 10″ guides perhaps, and you will also add product reviews. The reviews will be for individual products that are available on eBay. You simple drop a few eBay auctions in the middle or end of your review of the product. Here’s an example: http://forgedgolfirons.com/

These sites have long term earning ability. Don’t expect any money too quickly. Wait a couple months and things should start picking up. And don’t expect the money to stop flowing once it comes! Certainly, if you follow the plan in this 9-step guide you will have a well designed site that is ready for search engine love. The guys who wrote the guide have tried and tested the method and swear by it. They hardly do any marketing. They focus on content and site building and that’s pretty much it. The tools used… phpBay and WordPress. You can get the exact details from this guide. I built about 5 of these sites since buying the guide last week. The way it’s done is quite unique (at least from anything I’ve ever done). It’s impressive. Also, try TextBroker.com for content. You don’t have to worry about being stiffed by a writer on that site, plus you don’t have to pay until you are satisfied. Had I known that last year I would’ve saved lots of money!

Have you used any of the above methods in the past? What do you think?
