Successful Selling on Fiverr.com

I brought up Fiverr.com the other day in my post: What Can I Get For $5, and since I have had a little time to play around with the system I thought I would revisit it to share what I have learned and how I was able to earn $320 with a little over 3 hours work over the span of 10 days. <--- Disclaimer: Perhaps not common, but I can tell you how I tweaked my ads to sell more "gigs"...

Fiverr.com lets people buy and sell what they call "gigs" for $5. In this post I won't be getting into the opportunities for networking over there or the great web site promo offerings, but instead I'm going to talk more about making money... $5 at a time. I realize $5 doesn't sound like a whole lot, but you can literally spend just a couple minutes to earn it, depending on what it is you are offering.

Originally (about 2 weeks ago now) I just slapped up an ad... offering something I knew would only take me a couple minutes to do, I found a quick image (required) to attach to my listing and logged out assuming my inbox would be full of "requests" for my gig by the following day.. but nary a whimper.

So.. I headed back to Fiverr to see if perhaps what I was offering was out of the norm for that site but as a matter of fact 2 other people were offering a very similar thing and one of them showed loads of feedback suggesting that he or she was making sales... I borrowed some ideas from the adcopy/title etc., changed my ad slightly (used a call to action, added keywords appropriately, talked more about the benefits) and some sales finally trickled in but nothing to brag about... so ultimately I decided to put if off for a bit to revisit later.. and continued on as a buyer (for web site promo gigs etc.).

I eventually bought a gig from a Fiverr user named Traci (someone I now affectionately call the Fiverr.com lady)... the gig I purchased was unrelated to Fiverr but as we got to talking she offered me a copy of her eBook Five Dollar Fortunes to review (the aforementioned networking benefits of Fiverr at work).

I applied just a couple of the tips in it and my sales increased significantly. I took the image in my listing more seriously.. there's a page in the book just on the importance of the image.

Then, she talked about adding keywords (properly) into the title of the listing... awesome tip... if you notice on Fiverr, the listings have their own unique URL and the title shows up in the URL... so you got it.. SEO benefits! Although I can't see stats from the search engines I can only guess that it helped as the view count went up very fast after applying this change... well.. I imagine some has to do with the image I used as well.

I also applied AIDA to my ad (Attention, Interest, Desire and Action) after reading the simple method in the ebook. With these few ad changing tips and some simple (and quick) external promotion methods (which I never even thought of initially) helped me get over $300 quickly. Since I made so many changes in one sitting I can't say for sure which one helped the most but I'm guessing they all played a role.

Besides tips for creating better ads and promoting your listing... the eBook covers a great deal of other topics including:

  • all aspects of the site in plain English.. a perfect Fiverr.com how-to manual
  • how to find free products to sell (legitimately and ethically)
  • the importance of setting up your Fiverr profile and how to do it
  • ...and more...

She makes the process simple and concise allowing you to be up and running making some "fivers" in no time.
