Make Money Online

RoboForm Password Manager

I use RoboForm to keep track of all of my passwords. Since it isn't a good idea to use the same password for everything and a lot of places have different requirements for what they accept for usernames and passwords I needed a way to manage it all. I used to have a list in Microsoft Excel with all of the web site addresses, the usernames and the passwords but it was really inefficient. I then tried something a friend of mine was doing which was putting the username and password in brackets next to the name of the web page in my bookmarks. That method was just as inefficient, if not more so, and was very insecure. My passwords were accessible to anyone who sat down at my computer.

I came across RoboForm eventually. I hate paying for software but I was able to try it free and after the trial period was up, which I think was a month, the decision to buy it was a no brainer. You create one master password which locks all of your accounts. It'll ask for that password when you first use the system or when the computer has been idle for awhile. The way it works is, you enter your credentials into a web site login form and click Submit like usual and then RoboForm pops up and asks if you would like to save that information for future logins. You create a folder to stay organized or put it into an existing folder and save it. Now, you can quickly login to that site in the future in two different ways. RoboForm is installed as a toolbar on your browser and at this point sort of behaves like a favorites menu or bookmarks menu. You simply click on the Logins menu and then choose the site you would like to login to. It then surfs to that page, puts in the login info and clicks the submit button for you. Brilliant. Another way is if you surf to the page on your own a new button will show up in the toolbar that relates to the page you are on. You click it and it logs you in. Couldn't be easier.

A few scenarios came up that I thought would make me want to axe the idea of using RoboForm. There are times where you might have multiple logins to the same site. RoboForm handles it. If you use the bookmarking method it simply creates a new entry. You choose the one you want to login with and it takes care of it. Obviously you will have had to name the entry appropriately to distinguish between the two. By default RoboForm uses the partial domain name as the bookmark name. I always change it to something else that makes sense to me. Ok, now in the situations where you surf to the page manually and you want to click the button at the top to log you in. Well it will default on one of the logins for that page but also create a drop down menu with all of the other logins for that page. Drop down the list and choose the one you want and you're ready to go. You can also choose to have RoboForm not ask you to save the username and password for certain domains. RoboForm will pop up by default when you try to login to a new site or form that hasn't been previously saved. You can turn off that feature for all sites or for specific sites. So, for example if you don't want to auto-login in to your banking, you can tell RoboForm to quit asking you to save the form details for that particular site.

Auto-fill Surveys & Sweepstakes

RoboForm is used for all forms, not just login forms. RoboForm is used by Sweepstakes entrants to automatically fill in long forms and submit them. Not my thing but can be handy. On the same token, folks who fill out a lot of surveys can save some of the redundant steps with RoboForm.

If you would find this handy on more than one computer using separate password management there are discounts for multiple licences. But, if you would like to use it on more than one computer and you want your passwords to travel with you RoboForm has thought of that too. They have a version called RoboForm2Go (link will download the software to your computer from the RoboForm web site - it's safe) that fits nicely on a USB drive. I believe they even offer USB drives with the software preinstalled.

RoboForm has saved me a lot of time and frustration. It has saved me from going back and forth between programs copying and pasting web site addresses, usernames and passwords. It's a great tool and I haven't even maximized what it is capable of doing. But for what I use it for I am completely satisfied.

I can vouch for this software, if you dont have it – get it!

It saves me a great deal of time and you can put a master password on it which you have to put in every session just incase your computer/laptop gets stolen

Yeah I wish I would have found it over a year ago when I was fiddling around with spreadsheets.

    Thanks for the comment Richard.
