The Biggest Takeaway from the 30 Day Challenge

Make Money Online

On day 23 of the 30 day challenge there is a podcast. I may be reading more into it then it is but I doubt it. Why do you suppose a podcast was slipped in there? How many of you use podcasts for traffic or have seen it suggested on the guru blogs? You can imagine that Ed and Dan and the boys are doing some market research throughout the 30 day challenge for material for the Immediate Edge members.

I read a traffic course ebook just the other day that suggests podcasts for traffic. It suggested taking one of your 500ish word articles that you had previously submitted to the article directories (free software for article submitting)...and read it into a microphone and record it into mp3. Then you could submit the thing to a ton of podcast directories, including iTunes. Apparently there is podcast submitter software to do that too. I plan to do this on a new site that I started a couple of days ago. I'll likely outsource it though. (outsourcing is cheaper than ya might think) Oh, the ebook also gets into using your newly created mp3 and creating a PowerPoint (or similar) presentation and make a video. You can then use TubeMogul.com to blast it to all of the video sites for free. Tip: Use your domain name link (with http) at the beginning of your description for the video and use your keyword in the title.

Anyway...podcasts for traffic seems like a decent idea and maybe the 30 day challenge folks are testing the effects of it. If you listen close enough to the podcast it's really just Ed and Gurubob arguing about who's marketing method is best. They don't seem to like (or respect) eachother. If you listen close enough you'll know what I mean. Also gurubob, I'm sure, is monetarily affiliated with Market Samurai in a big way.

I've been researching way to get organic traffic very heavily lately...so I thought I'd tell ya what I was up to.

Have you ever tried podcasts to drive traffic?

Keith from this post I get the idea that you haven’t been around the 30DC long :)

Previous year’s challenges were ALL podcast based. That has been researched to death back when podcasts were cutting edge, now they are pretty much passe and video is king.

Hey, I like the new theme, Keith!

Never used podcasts and most likely never will. I have put some thought into using a plugin that reads my posts if the reader chooses to. It doesn’t sound mechanical either.

I guess why I haven’t jumped on the podcast bandwagon is because I don’t use my mp3 player outside of the gym mostly. And that’s when I listen to music and don’t think about anything. My brain is wired to only listen to music when I don’t have to think. Otherwise, I can’t focus on the task at hand. So maybe that’s why it never appealed to me.

Thanks Mark. Yeah, it used to be hard for me to wrap my mind around someone listening to an mp3 for something other than music. I do now myself, I listen to audio books, educational podcasts etc. but even if I didn’t…tons of other people do. I think it would be a great way to send traffic to your blog or landing page or whatever.

    Hi Allison…

Yeah I do recall now from last year about the podcasts. I just ignored them as a traffic source I guess.

Video being king doesn’t take away from podcasts being part of the traffic plan I am developing.

But truthfully I haven’t seen podcasts for traffic suggested on any of the bigger MMO blogs out there.

All in all I’m not very “cutting edge” I s’pose :)

Thanks for dropping by with a comment…

Good stuff Keith, I wouldn’t discount this method and it’s going to be part of my new blog interview site. It’s not new, but opens your content up to new audiences.

I still haven’t listened to it yet.

Hey man…yeah I never even considered it before. I knew video could drive traffic but I got lazy with it. I just did the traditional SB’ing, comments on posts, forums, etc. but now with TubeMogul I’ll be sending out vids…I need to find a podcast submission tool too, hopefully a free one.

  7. Gurubob Says:

I was interested by your comments:

“If you listen close enough to the podcast it’s really just Ed and Gurubob arguing about who’s marketing method is best. They don’t seem to like (or respect) eachother. On the first point, you might not be aware that Ed and I have worked ‘together’ for over 5 years. As far as Market Samurai is concerned, I instigated the development of Market Samurai and have been heavily involved in the design and testing of the functionality contained within the tool.

You might want to do a bit more research before you offer your opinions. Almost everything on the internet gets indexed by Google and is available for all to read, including the people to whom your ‘opinions’ are directed.

Perhaps I interpreted it wrong. Wouldn’t be the first time I guess. As far as Market Samurai goes, there’s nothing wrong with you launching it with the 30DC, it’s brilliant.

Guess this ruins any chance of being an affiliate for Market Samurai! doh!

Thanks for coming by and dropping a comment. I’m honoured.

Ever heard of Odiogo? It turns all your posts into podcasts..they have a WP plug-in too.

No I haven’t but I’ll definitely check it out…I’ve been looking for a solution for that exact thing…I’m afraid it’ll be robotic sounding but I’ll have to see…thanks for the info.
