Make Money Online

I've been using computers for a heck of a long time now, more years then I care to count. When the post-DOS Operating Systems came out and there became a use for a mouse, I wish it would've been that bad boy in the picture (the joystick looking one). It would have saved me a lot of grief. Over the years and more and more use of the computer, repetitive strain injury and carpal tunnel became a big problem for me.

Wrist Exercises, Gel Mousepads...My Path To The Joystick Mouse

I considered a new career a few years ago because my wrists were causing me so much pain, and I would lose feeling in my baby finger and my thumb. I started to do some wrist exercises and got temporary relief. I bought gel mousepads for every workstation and it helped a bit. I still bring a gel mousepad when I do work on someone else's computer for a long period of time. But, as mentioned above, my savior is the joystick mouse. I can spend hours upon hours on the computer and don't have to end the day with ice or heat or tensor on my wrist and hand.

I came across a blog post at a "make money online" web site talking about Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Repetitive Strain Injury. It talked about using the joystick mouse from 3M to eliminate the strain. Despite my skepticism and the big price tag (around 50 bucks), I bought one anyway... just in case. I forget where the blog is now or else I would comment on the post and thank the guy.

The mouse works by using your larger muscles rather than the tiny ones that get strained easily. You grab the thing like you are shaking someones hand. It's weird at first. I believe the guy who wrote the post that sold me on it, wrote something like...the first week with the mouse you will be wondering why the heck you spent the money on this goofy thing....the second week you will start to get used to it a little and think to yourself that it's not too bad and probably even stop hiding it when people come over...and in the third week you will be wondering how you got by without it. It happened just like he said. He should have mentioned that in the 8th month you will be blogging about it recommending it to other people. :)

I keep the old trusty Microsoft mouse attached for when people come over and don't want to use the joystick. The biggest questions I get are "what the heck do I do with this thing?" or "what is this, you playing video games back here?". Nope, it's a mouse and it's simple to figure out. The button across the top is controlled with your thumb and it clicks left and right for, you guessed it, your left and right click. The large button across the front can be clicked with any or all of the rest of your fingers. It's used to scroll and when clicked, a scroll image appears on the screen until you let go of the button. While it is engaged you simply slide the mouse up and down. And no, the handle doesn't rock back and forth, the whole unit slides to control the mouse pointer (and the scrolling). Oh yeah, it connects by USB or PS/2 and there's no mouse ball, it's optical.

The mouse comes in 2 sizes, small/medium and large and they are available on Amazon. Use the links below if you want to buy one to hook me up with a small referral fee. Come back and leave a message and let me know what you think of it...submit the comment after the 2nd or 3rd week when you are less inclined to complain though. :)

As suggested in the blog post I read, I bought the large mouse (as of this writing, it is cheaper) and I'm glad I did because the large one isn't all that big, so the small would've been too small for sure. I think the large would work for most people, it's even an OK size for my nephew and he's 6.

So, to recap, the pain in my wrist and the numbness in my fingers is eliminated. The body is always on a mission to heal itself, you just have to give it a break so it can. I still get a little pain in my fingers but I believe it is a touch of arthritis, but I'm taking fish oils for that. :) Got 'em at FreeFishOils.com.
