Google Trends Led Me To Higher Earnings - Part 3
written by Keith James LockIn this post I will cover the landing page for the domain variation PPC to CPA campaign. If you are just direct linking you can skip this post altogether. Take a look at part 1 and part 2 if you haven't already.
Below is an example landing page that I whipped up quickly (click it for a larger view, it will open in a new window). It would need some more text, perhaps some football related news near the bottom and a couple other enhancements but it's a start.
Landing Page Outsourcing
To save time you can also outsource your landing page design. LP Creations has some pre-made landing pages for which they will only sell a maximum of 5. That way you know a ton of people aren't using the same page. Also, they will write a unique article for the landing page if you wish.
If the pre-made landing pages don't suit your fancy, they will also design custom landing pages for any niche, with or without a unique article.
Capturing Name and Email
Now, I did say that there would be a way to improve the user experience and maybe get a long term customer as well. Let's start with the potential for a long term customer...It's a great idea, although certainly not necessary, to try and capture the name and email address of your visitors. Regardless of whether you're doing a quick and dirty campaign such as this or a full-blown campaign it could lead to more revenue down the road (or lost revenue if you don't). With a service such as Aweber you can add a form to your landing page asking for the name and email. Obviously you will need to give them a reason to signup. Offer more freebies in the future, some news and/or tips. It really depends on the offer you are promoting to determine what to promise them in the newsletter. A great thing about Aweber is that you can create unlimited autoresponders (series of emails that go out at set time intervals). For my general blog that I run these campaigns on, I could create a newsletter geared to all of them if I choose to. Once the person signs up, just send them some of what you promised. Give them some free info or something of value a few times and then suggest a product or service that will earn you some commissions. Do this over and over.
Passing Values or Pre-Populating
Another cool thing that you could do with some of these offers is pass some values over to the offer landing page. It's a bit more technical but it can improve the user experience. Details can be found at the affiliate network site but in this case there are two fields that the user needs to fill out on the NFL Jersey offer page. If you are already grabbing the email address anyway for the newsletter or autoresponder, ask for their favorite team from a drop down list. Then you can redirect them to the offer and auto fill the team name and email address and the football fan with simply have to click the submit button and you get your commission. It is sometimes to your advantage to tell them that there info will be filled in for them on the next page and they just have to click submit. On this offer, once the email address is given, you earn your commission. If the customer decides not to complete the program requirements you are already paid. Obviously the ultimate goal is for them to complete the requirements to get the jersey but you get what I'm saying.
Try to Improve Quality Score for Lower CPC
The advantage of having a landing page is that you can control what the text is on the page. If you were direct linking you can't. One way to improve Quality Score is by keeping things relevant. It's nice to have the search query (your keyword) shown in the text ad and in the landing page. With these domains variations though you wouldn't include them in your ad text and you probably wouldn't want them on your landing page (unless you put a clever spin on it). But you could put some text in your meta keywords that could help improve relevancy.
In this case and probably all domain name variation campaigns that you are putting together you should include the following string in your meta keywords: "http: w ww www com .com". You can't include them all but that's a good set to include. And you would also want to include your seed words. You should be able to add your seed words to the ad text and lading page text in most cases but include them here as well. For this campaign I would add: "nfl draft football".
Divert and Convert
Now, with all of this setup you should be able to divert some traffic to your landing page. If your landing page is simple and direct enough you may able to capture some email addresses with Aweber and then divert the traffic further through the funnel to the offer landing page. If they surfer still feels that they are seeing what they had expected to see then the traffic will likely convert. Since you are taking advantage of trends, expect a ton of traffic (at the very least, impressions). It's a lot of fun and gets a bit addictive. Be smart and think outside the box a bit and Google Trends may start leading you to higher earnings. Best of luck!
