How Do I Setup A Database On GoDaddy And Find The Host Name?
written by Keith James Lock

I received an email over the weekend asking about how to setup a MySQL database at GoDaddy and find out the host name for the database to enter into the configuration when setting up WordPress. The detailed steps are below on how to do this.
- Log in to your GoDaddy account.
- Hover over the green button across the top that says "Hosting & Servers".
- Click "My Hosting Account". (the rest assumes that you have purchased a hosting account and that it has already been configured)
- Click "Open" next to the hosting account that you would like to create the database for. (Remember: the hosting account domain doesn't have to be the same as the domain that you will be using the database on if you took advantage of the unlimited web sites for one hosting account option)
- Now you should be in the Hosting Control Center. Hover over the green button across the top that says "Databases" and click "MySQL".
- Click the "Create Database" button.
- Fill in your desired username (database name will be the same), your password, and the version. Choose 5.0 unless you have a specific reason not to. It really shouldn't matter a whole lot which version you choose so don't worry if you chose 4.1 instead.
- Make note of the username/database name and the password. You will need those, along with the host name, when setting up WordPress or most other applications.
- Click the orange "OK" button.
- Wait a few minutes and refresh the page (press F5). At this point we want to wait for the Status to go from Pending Setup to Setup.
- If you wait too long to refresh the page you might be logged off (or timed out). Just follow the steps above just prior to creating the database to get back to where you were.

- Click the "Edit/View Details" button next to the newly created database as shown in the image above.
- Make note of the host name and you'll have all the info you need to configure WordPress and most other web based apps.
As always, feel free to submit any technical questions that you have in relation to GoDaddy. I'll do my best to help.
