In an effort to encourage comments, I have implemented ExtraLuv. ExtraLuv is a way for you to get some extra link backs to your blog (and soon enough to your social profiles).
CommentLuv
As always I have CommentLuv installed. CommentLuv tries to grab your last blog post and links to it within your comment. The link is a gorgeous "dofollow" link for ya. The plugin is from FiddyP.co.uk which I realize now is a parody for 50 Cent the rapper. Funny!
DoFollow URL
Your URL to your blog (or web site) will also be a "dofollow" of course.
Add to Technorati
I also take the URL (and assume it is a blog URL) and append it to an add to Technorati favorites URL. Will people click it? No idea...but I have added a couple of my reader's blogs to my Technorati Faves that way myself so far.
KeywordLuv
A new plugin I installed yesterday is KeywordLuv. I love this plugin. The way it works is you add your Name as YourName@SomeKeywords and the comment name will be displayed as Comment by YourName of SomeKeywords and the SomeKeywords will be anchored with a "dofollow". Really cool!
SezWho?
I have also setup SezWho which follows you around the blogosphere and beyond, displaying a collection of your comments, etc. and includes an RSS feed so that someone can follow you. It's pretty cool. My short description probably won't do it any justice. Click the link above and check out the video.
Rate My Posts
I didn't implement all of the features of SezWho but I have added the post ratings tool. So, if you could be so kind and rate my posts after reading them, I would appreciate it. I haven't read enough to know the value of that just yet, but I'm sure there is some.
Extra Comments Fields
Lastly...I found a really cool plugin that will allow me to add extra fields to the comments form. It seems to be the only one of it's kind. I have searched for hours. What I would like to do with it is add a few optional boxes to the comment form asking for your social profile username... for Digg, StumbleUpon, YouTube, Friend Feed...etc. (all of the ones you see below my name in the comments).
The current problem I have with it is that it won't store the info in a cookie automatically. So, when you come back and leave another comment you will have to add the values again which sucks. I want to make it as easy as possible. Anyone know of a solution?
Your Opinion Please
So...what do you think? Will adding the social icons be of any value or is it a waste of time? Will people be more encouraged to leave comments?

I just wanted to post this comment so you could see the social icons below my name…the same ones I would like to show below your name, once I figure out an easy way.

Not directly, I’m not a coder, but you could try to ask my friend David Cooley (aka Cybercoder). He’s very talented and he has done more than a job for me. I paste below one of his last posts of the blog he just sold.
So if interested, drop him a mail on gmail, his nickname is cybercoder.

@Big Blogger…. Thanks for the contact, I’ll probably give him a shout…appreciate it!
@JK Swopes…. Ya I’m glad I saw it in action on your blog…I think it’s a cool little plugin…
Of all the plugins used in my blog, about 85% are used to enhance the comments in some sort of way!…..I have tried unsuccessfully several times getting threaded comments to work with everything…
Thanks for the comments guys

Thanks for the useful post, and debate in the comments. There are pros and cons to KeywordLuv and CommentLuv. For me, CommentLuv has a slight advantage as it provides a deep-link to a blog post, as well as a general link to the homepage. Assuming you have keywords in your post-titles, you get the best of both.

This is REALLY cool! Even though you haven’t solved the cookie problem you should still make the fields available, it would give people the idea for how it works. And of course they don’t have to fill in if they don’t want to.

@Peter…I thought of that…and I just may… The browser usually stores the values anyway so when the field is clicked it will drop down a list of previously entered values….so that may work for the time being…
thanks for the input

I really like that you have all these plugins working well together. Sharing a little link love keeps people coming back to your blog and helps build a community around your blog. Keep it up.
I haven’t heard of SezWho before, but I am going to go check it out now.

Cool! You have done almost everything to keep your commenters happy and appreciated. Those plugins certainly help to keep your commenters coming back for more.
I love the icon below the commenter’s name; something I have seen anywhere before. Care to share what plugin are you using, Keith?

@Blog for Beginners….thanks for the comment….no plugin…just some theme hacks
August 7th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
I have most of these things on my blog – it brings some unique visitors (some people actively search for these) but I’m surprised more people are not taking advantage of it. I don’t think the whole sez who entrecard thing caught on as much as everybody thought it would.
Only time will really tell, since I’ve only started it a few weeks ago, but if you’d like a little comment/keyword/sez who luv stop on by anytime :)

Yeah, I changed up my theme a couple of days ago. My old theme had tons of customizations that I haven’t carried over…I still may. Thanks for the comment.
