Blog Series - From Setup To ? - Part 1
written by Keith James Lock
In this series I will be setting up a blog from scratch, showing promotion and monetizing methods and who knows where it will lead after that. Part of the money that I earn online involves setting blogs up for other people and taking care of all of the technical details. Often, I spend more time and TLC on someone else's blogs than I do on my own. I have a site that reviews and rates 3 software packages and provides free download links for each of them (I'll be writing a series how to set one of those up with all of the code after this one). In order to get more natural traffic I want to attach a blog to the site. To help anyone interested in setting up a blog, I will be blogging about what I am doing while I am doing it. It should also provide me the discipline necessary to bring my blog (on the review site) to the level that I want it to be.
Staying Motivated In This Business
I do have the challenge of staying motivated in this business sometimes. You often have to put in a lot of work for the "chance" at gaining something from it. There isn't always a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and it isn't always quick and easy to see results. That "what if I am wasting my time" thinking often stops me from "doing" and I'm sure there are other people in the same boat. Well, during the process of setting up the blog on the review site and turning it into the traffic-generating, money-making, fast-loading, SEO-friendly machine I want it to be I need motivation. My motivation will be to give easy to follow step by step instructions to my readers here. A lot of people that I setup blogs for simply don't have the technical know how to do so or just need a guide to follow one step at a time. Hopefully that's what I will be able to provide here. All I ask it that you use the comments section for any questions that you have. I do welcome emails using the contact form but some of the questions that I get would be valuable to other readers as well. I know this blog is new and people don't like to be the first to do things but if you think this stuff is beneficial and you have questions, please don't hesitate. Use a pseudo name if you want.
Keeping Things As Cheap As Possible, Mostly Free
A lot of the steps will require installing plugins and/or tweaking some code. If there is a free way to do something and I know about it, even if there is extra work involved, I will show the steps to do it and make it as simple as possible for you. If you run into a unique situation and have troubles with something, leave a note in the comments. I'll do what I can to help.
One thing that I won't be teaching is what a blog is and how to use it once it's setup. I'll be using WordPress during this series. It is pretty simple to use for the most part and there are great how-to documents at WordPress.org for all of the basics. To completely master it and dig a little deeper than just the basics, try a good book. WordPress For Dummies is available dirt cheap at Amazon. Use the link below to support this great series!
I think it's available for less than $20.00.
